On the 8th to 10th October Ffestiniog Railway will be showcasing its unrivalled collection of 19th century rolling stock. Come and see locomotives Stephenson thought impossible to build hauling original carriages and wagons on their original railway.

Trains from various eras including 1870s, 1930s, 1950s and even the 1980s will be recreated.

Highlights will include authentic mixed (passenger and freight) trains, the first run of the unique Spooners boat over the entire line and on Sunday the longest Gravity Train since 2002 with around 40 wagons all unfitted.

The Ffestiniog fancy dress department F.R.O.C.S will also be out in force dressed in authentic Victorian costume around and about the line, no hi viz in sight!

Many vehicles that have not seen the light of day for a good few years will be on display and keep and eye out for the Moel-y-Gest quarry shunter at Harbour Station.

More details and passenger timetables are here.

Discount fares will be available to FR Society and FR Heritage Group members.

    Tim

Or even the 21st century if Lyd is working a few of the trains!

Downhill I presume, or are they hoping for a very strong wind?

The boat will travel up on the back of the Victorian set then gravitate back down with a slight push up the hill to the power station.

Last i saw Lyd is thankfully out the way most of the weekend and only runs Friday morning and Sunday afternoon.

Tal does the slates Saturday morning then a trip with the Victorian set then an AGM special. The latter is not for the public. For more info you'll have to buy the guide im afraid.

I believe there has been some delay with the Spotter's guide, best check with Harbour Station.

Remember chaps, the top railway preservation special event of the year kicks of on Friday from about 9:30, certainly not one to be missed.

Is Blanche working at all tomorrow (Saturday)? I know I need to buy a spotters guide but I can't get one until I get there tomorrow and I don't want to miss it. Thanks on advance.

Should be good, I'm looking forward to it. I'll buy the spotters guide when I get there but it would nice to be able to purchase it in advance.

I'm not telling you the Taliesin time, but I'd suggest you may want to purchase your spotter's guide at about 7:00am to have the time to see that.

Saturday is an FR loco only day, Blanche will not be out untill Sunday now when it'll be doubleheading with the Lyd.

That's a shame but thanks. I don't want to sound like a broken record but why couldn't this have been explained earlier? FR only day isn't mentioned anywhere. I suppose it's ok if you live in Porthmadog!

I think there has been quite a lot of 'last minuiteness' about somethings. We had a reasonable amount happening today (snapshot here www.ffestiniograilway.org.uk/index....eritage-weekend-friday&catid=3:news&Itemid=50 ), the ECS that left Porthmadog at about 6pm had 5 locos on the front, 3 of which had been constructed in the last 31 years (building an A1 is small fry), aswell as there being locos from three different centuries and at the front was the oldest operational loco running on its orignal railway. However the event really kicks off tomorrow....
