FDW 5 Day Course

Footplate Days and Ways are running a 5 day course at Isfield station from 14th to 18th October. There are still a couple of places available. Clive Groome will take you through 2 days on the theory of steam locomotive design before taking course attendees for 3 days of intensive on-the-footplate instruction. Preparation of the loco, lighting up, oiling up and cleaning. Emptying of the ash pan and smokebox. Learn how to buffer up, couple up, manage loose coupled and fitted freight and passenger rolling stock. Propelling as well as hauling, stopping on marks etc. Disposal of the loco at the end of the day. This is a course for people who want to see what it was like to be a steam engineman.
