Lovely photo. Do you have any more?

Missing the old gall already...I never thought I would say that about a passenger tub!

For a potted precis of the recent weeks and days may I refer you to

    http://dougnewmanatsea.com/2008/11/30/farewell-qe2/

We shared the January Winter crossing with young Doug and many other members of Cunard Critic and the Winter Crossing Club and Doug was one of the fifty or so who gathered at the Sequoia on the 16th prior to QE2's last New York departure ( - some - 60017 didn't [-X )

Its a great and heartfelt tribute that many of us share

I am still compiling my record of the last few weeks - found a new shot only tonight - and if Pinnacle would play ball - would hope to get a DVD record of the final UK and Transat homebound done eventually

I've heard on the grapevine that she is going to Bremerhaven for her refit as the job is too big for the resources in Dubai.

No-one can say anything with any certainty

Nakheel are not the botomless pit of money that they once were, and QE2 is still sitting exactly where Cunard left her with a wisp of smoke coming out of the funnel to keep her alive

Bill Warwick is caretaking her - but nothing is coming from onboard - but that's just like him - a true professional.

The rumour is that she is to be stretched - why in God's name? - she's a dmaned big building now! if that is her future.

One wonders if they have been watching the debacle of getting the Rotterdam up and running which has been a financial and legal disaster so far, but they are still keeping faith and she will operate this year.

of even more concern is that operators of the Queen Mary have defaulted on the lease and no new lessee's have come forward . suggestions that the QE2 can be run at a profit in the UK are somewhat doubtful

Awaiting press release from Nakheel to say that Bruce Knights rang up yesterday with an offer to "look after" it and it'll be off under its own power by the weekend.

"Nakheel are interested in preservation after all..." etc.

Really? Rotterdam has been cited as 'best practice' elsewhere in this thread!

From what I see and read the operating Rotterdam will be best practice indeed - but the work of getting to this stage has been fraught with legal, technical, and financial disasters every step of the way.

She will be an object lesson to those wishing to tread this path - but - she will also be proof that it can be done.

Oh dear ! I want my money back ! LOL. It would cost a fortune to get her compliant with the SOLAS 2010 regulations, so I'd be very surprised if she went back to sea as an operational liner. I'm pretty sure there would have been a very strict clause in the sale conditions about her not being used as a passenger vessel. It's also well known that her superstructure is corroded. Nice thought though.
