Allow temporary dispensation to ignore it maybe? To miss out by 21 seconds though over a distance of that length though… 6159C41C-FFDB-43B9-9AA2-425728D85E33.jpeg

What they could do is to reduce the trailing weight of the train, then they might have a chance.

    How ?

Ditch all the freeloaders on the train.

From what I’ve seen, I suspect the issue was speed restrictions, not surplus weight.

The TSR would’ve been taken into account prior to running. 21 seconds is minute, and as has been said upthread, an average speed as little as 0.2mph faster would’ve made all the difference. Yes the TSR not being there would’ve made it easier, but it’s not the be all into the overall time.

Have been informed another attempt is in the pipeline next year.

I have been told that the speed of my incessant tweeting during the journey could well have caused enough power to drain from the system to cause the 21 second delay.

Rumours that an impromptu recital of "21 seconds to go", a chart hit for "so solid crew", broke out on the return journey in one particular carriage remain - of course - unsubstantiated.
