Having a nosey at the re-building works at Reading Station at about 12.05pm today when I saw this "strange sight" in the distance. Turned out to be 47500 on the up relief with a set of WCRC Mk1 maroon stock with a green Mk2 BSK. Looked like the stock from yesterday's Royal Duchy. I assume it was returning to Southall from Bristol, not sure what it's next duty is though as nothing is shown on ukSteam & the RD runs again next Sunday.
Shame there wasn't a steam loco involved though!

Could just be going for light maintenence or similar which can be done at Southall but not while outstationed at Bristol, Is the WCRC actually kept at Bristol midweek as I've never seen it anywhere, the DBS rake lives in the middle road at Temple Meads.

Interesting question, I wonder where it was kept overnight last night? Is there room at Barton Hill to keep coaching stock?

I believe that WCRC stock for the Sunday trains does not remain at Bristol all week, but returns to Southall. Whether this is for maintenance purposes or to avoid paying charges to someone for stabling it at Bristol I don't know.

Probably similar to the stock stabled at Crewe for the various weekend workings, goes back to Carnforth Monday night after the Moorlander for cleaning and attention to any reported problems.
