At the risk of being unpopular, could we get back onto the Eastleigh 100 topic before it starts turning into a slanging match between enthusiast and pragmatist, please? The rights and wrongs of publishing railway timings surreptitiously are surely worthy of a thread of their own.

Getting back on topic, don't be silly.

It looks to be a fine event, and hopefully the weather will play ball. Looking forward to it \:D/

What I meant was that May has been a pretty good month weather-wise in the past, as every gala I have attended in May was bathed in sunshine over the last two years, so hopefully it'll be decent for Eastleigh. But then again, this is Britain we're talking about.

    Agreed.

I only hope these people asking for the times are not freeloaders and will actually come to the works and support this charity event.

I would have thought that a good % of those who photograph the moves will be free loaders.

Its a shame but thats the business we are in

I read in the Beano that there were discussions about 34067 POSSIBLY making an appearance, but leave it for 'Railway Magazine Staff' to confirm this, as he/she is closer to the planning of the event than anyone else. As usual, its best to wait for the official announcement.

What's the reason behind 30777 pulling out of the event?

Evidently the cost of getting her there by road.

I suppose if it were on the Great Central, then it would be best to send it by road, rather than pay for a low-loader to take it to a depot on the National Network, and then pay fees to steam it down to Eastleigh. The fact that it costs a fair slice to use a low loader (and there have been a few problems with these of late- 6100 on the way to the WSR and 3440 on the way to Llangollen) means that its probably better to leave it where it is. Whilst it is a shame that 30777 is not attending to bolster up the Maunsell contingent, the event is raising money for charities, and there is an excellent line-up already (I for one have not seen a Beattie Well Tank, nor have I seen 34070 yet, and I hope to snap a photo of Clan Line at Eastleigh railway station).

Hi everyone just a bit off topic. Anyone with a few hours left on their hands after the open day may find this information to their liking? There is now a new Whitherspoons pub that has just open opposite Eastleigh Railway station. I’ve been told by a few people that they highly recommended this drinking establishment.

Particularly now they've barred half the previous clientele; it certainly used to be more than a bit rough in there from recollection! I know of one Swanage volunteer who is rather concerned about whether he'll be let in there under the new regime...

There will also be a real ale bar on the site too, which will be right next to some of the steam locos.

And in answer to the question on another loco to replace 30777, something could still happen, but it's not 34067 as you may have read somewhere else. The reason 30777 is not going is that planned railtours that would have positioned it close to the event were cancelled, as any costs would have been shared with several parties. Road transport from Loughborough was not an option due to cost. It's a disappointment, but something may be pulled from the hat even now.

If it is, it will be posted on here first.

As promised, and posted here first, another big engine is in the frame for the event.

Can't reveal the identity yet, but it is not Tangmere, and is appropriate to the event.

My knowledge of steam locos doesn't stretch any futher north than London..........

Not quite sure how relevant 60019 would be to Eastleigh.

    Regards,

    Dan

34016 Bodmin or 34105 Swanage would make more sense
