I have to say I think the prices are a bargain in this day and age.

How do you work out it may be a bit of a disappointment if one loco doesn't attend? Given everything else that is booked it will still be the biggest railway event in the south of England for many a year, let alone a rare chance to have a look around an active railway works.

People might as well not try sometimes...

She's no dead loss to me, as A.) It won't be at the works the day I'm going, B.) I'm a Southern Enthusiast through and through, C.) I've already seen it and D.) I'm having a trip behind her next month (The Devonian) over the Devon Banks. So therefore, this chap won't be disappointed! \:D/

Anyway, the tour hasn't been cancelled if UK Steam is anything to go by. 70013 will be coming off at Eastleigh instead of going to Poole as previously advertised.

There seems to be immense confusion on this. This is the latest info I have.

On April 30 I attended a meeting at Eastleigh and considerable time was spent discussing how 70013 could access the site, while not impinging on the safety of the visitors. A solution was found based on information of an approx 1400 arrival at Eastleigh on the Saturday, with the loco behind a safety fence but clearly positioned for photos. The loco would later be repositioned overnight and remain at the works until its next tour.

Then on May 7 (22.38), I get an email from the tour promoter saying that "they had to reduce the load of our tour to 7 coaches including brake and Kitchen due to a huge restriction imposed on us by Network Rail on the Kings Cross Incline. This effectivly means our tour in running at a loss".

Then 14 hours later (12.07), without having time to respond, I get another email from the tour operator, to say a request had been made to West Coast for the loco to go to through to Poole then forward to Swanage after the tour, totally missing a chance to appear at the works with several other NRM locos. This may be related that on 80 passengers want to visit Eastleigh.

At no stage did anyone from the tour company pick up the phone to discuss the matter with a view to find a mutually acceptable conclusion. What it does mean is a lot of hassle to split the loco and tender at Swanage to turn it for its return tour, something that would have been completely avoided had it come to Eastleigh, where there are also pits and inspection facilities. I dont think the 70013 support crew are over the moon about the decision either.

So it is the tour operators decision that the loco was taken away from us, and I can only offer an apology for any disappointment, even though the Eastleigh organisers are utterly blameless in this - you just have to deal with it and move on.

In it's place we have Clan Line, which is far more appropriate to the setting, and gives us 4 Bulleid Pacifics on Sunday and Monday. Plus there is loads more to see including a number of DRS Class 20s now on site that moved there yesterday.

In that case, UK Steam is a bit out of date, even though it was updated 5 days ago, although ten years of avidly following progress within the heritage sector has taught me that things very rarely go exactly to plan 8-[ ! But it'll still be a cracking event regardless, and I'm very glad I booked my ticket for the Saturday at the earliest opportunity \:D/ . I also noticed Western Champion may be turning up (according to the latest issue of Heritage Railway)?

I'm surprised it took someone so long to inform you, as I'd heard from one of 70013's support crew that the load was going to 8, i.e. 7 plus support coach, way back on 24th April.

In fairness, the operation of the actual train and operational restrictions is of no concern to the Eastleigh organisers.

I was merely setting the record straight so there was no confusion.

[quote="RomseyThe "Wagon Works" as the Home Tavern is now known has lost its pub sign in the last few days. It was probably tactful to remove the sign, it portrayed 5224 a GWR 2-8-0T.

    Cheers, Neil[/quote]

A new sign has now been fitted, portraying 850. It's best decribed as being painted in shades of "weathering paint" brown....

    Cheers, Neil

Is 35028 the "mystery"guest that we have been waiting for?

I hope its not because that has been confirmed to come for ages.

Will there be a souvenir guide for the event and how much will it be?

So the loco needs turning in order to face Botley.

35028 much. Anything on the system for the turning movement for 35028 at
Eastleigh? Presumably Romsey reverse to Soton.

Does anyone know what's likely to be running the steam demonstration runs? I would assume something small and in ticket, so presumably either 30057, 30587 or 41312?

Well it won't be 41312 as it's not in ticket.

Sorry to be pedantic, but is it not 30053? 30057 was withdrawn in 1963 and scrapped.
