My offering from the Gala - (link below) (still needed titling up) - Shots from the nightshoot didnt do too well for me ( too much movement on the tripod / new lense I was tring is my excuse)

A very good gala and I do believe the Duke did run later in the afternoon after I had already returned home.

And I lucked out and managed to get on it at the last minute - what a super power pairing that was! Great day for my first visit to the ELR, and surprisingly easy to get to and back in a day - even managed to squeeze in a visit to the National Winter Ale Festival too before the train back to London!

71000 failed with an air pump fault apparently, though she did make it out at the end of the day.

Overall was a good event yesterday, with the weather mixed. Only downside was a signalling failure that created a delay in the morning but then repeated itself in the evening, meaning 49395 didn't arrive back into Bury until 1845 (was meant to get back 17:41). However the onboard staff were very good and kept us upto date and the group I was in managed to entertain ourselves for the hour we were stuck at Ramsbottom.

    Excellent visit yesterday.

    Well done to all involved.

The 40 minute lunchtime delay had been cut to only 4 minutes when we arrived at Heywood with the last train of the day.

Great performances by the locos / crews.

    More next month.

Does anyone know how long 850 is staying at Bury after the gala?

    I gather 71000 failed yesterday.

According to the ELR forum, 850 will also appear at the February Gala (25th-26th February)

My pics from Sunday if anyone is interested: East Lancs Winter Gala - a set on Flickr

Todays annoying challenge was presented by the camera, refusing to auto focus halfway through the visit, easier said than done to work on manual!.

Anyone know why 71000 was wearing a reef this morning ?.

Would that be a coral reef .... or even a floral wreath perchance?

I understand that the wreath was in memory of a lady would was a member of the 71000 Trust/Friends who died last year (last weekend was the first chance that they'd had to carry it).

We had two windy days, no prize for guessing when I had to hold onto the tripod as I nearly got blown away.
