Diana makes it five at Amerton gala

    The Amerton Railway will field five engines at its forthcoming ‘Summer Steam Gala’ on June 24/25, as Kerr Stuart 0-4-0T Diana has been announced as a surprise visitor.

    The 1917-built ‘Sidar’, Works No. 1158, is visiting courtesy of owner Phil Mason and the Bala Lake Railway and will join two other visiting locomotives – Peckett 0-6-0ST Liassic and Avonside 0-4-0T Marchlyn – courtesy of the Statfold Barn Railway.

    The five-strong line-up is rounded out by two Amerton residents – Bagnall 0-4-0ST Works No. 1491 Isabel and Hunslet 0-4-0ST Jennie – the latter based on the Kerr Stuart ‘Wren’ class.

    Amerton’s yard, workshop and locomotive shed will be available for viewing, as will the railway’s restored ex-Leek & Manifold Valley Light Railway Waterhouses signal box. Trains will run from 11am to 6pm on both days of the two-day event, with a variety of passenger and goods services.
