Tonight is the 75th Anniversary of the raid; spare a thought for all involved.

The Dambusters and not forgetting those on the ground in the Ruhr, are remembered often by a clergyman friend who is a relative of the late Guy Gibson. VC, DSO and bar, DFC and bar.

Also well worth a read is Guy Gibson's book, 'Enemy Coast Ahead' which covers all his operational career to his death in 1944.

The Lancaster went up this morning, with Johnny Johnson in the bomb aimer's seat, for a flight over the Derwent Reservoir.

I read that some years ago, a fascinating book. I must visit the library again. ;)
I had the privilege, just nine years after the end of WW2 in Europe, of joining the RAF. There were still very many in the service who had been on active wartime service and had most interesting reminiscences - once they were comfortable in telling them. Some were not that enthusiastic and understandably kept quiet. Fortunately some felt their experiences were worth imparting to much younger people in the hope that they might find their insight useful at a later time. Whilst there has not been world wide conflict since WW2 there has been some very hard conflicts over the following decades. I am sure the wisdom passed on did help those who were still in military service.

After being cancelled due to weather conditions, the Lancaster made an additional flight early the next day with Johnney Johnson on board.
