An idle thought has generated a question of which of the Class 7 locomotive types that regularly worked over the S&C in BR days were best suited for the job. The initial choice would be between the rebuilt Patriots; rebuilt Royal Scots; LNER A3 Pacifics and the Britannias but the unrebuilt Patriots and Jubilees at 6P/5F were also regular motive power so how did they compare with their more powerful associates during BR days.

Is anyone now alive who can remember working these classes in their heyday ?
