The Class 60 Preservation Group are happy to announce that we shall be taking part in a sponsored walk during 2009. The dates of the walk are Saturday the 4th April through to Tuesday 7th April. The walk is to raise funds not only for the Class 60 Preservation Group Fund, but shall also be donating a good amount to a charity, nominated by us as the RSPCA.

We are also very proud indeed to have onboard as official sponsor, Rail Express Magazine. So my thanks and appreciation go out to everyone involved with this popular magazine, and look forward to there support!

The planned walk is roughly 109 miles and expected to take no more than 4 days. The interesting part is the fact we have no roads to follow, no muddy fields, just 99% canal towpath. the other 1% being the only hill on the circular route that bypasses a tunnel only accessable to boat users.
Also, to our advantage, around 1/4 of the route follows very busy railway lines, including the WCML, so plenty of photo opportunities there!
To boat users, the route is known as the 4 Counties Ring, so that will also be the name of our route taken. The four counties visited being Shropshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire & The West Midlands. The begining & end of the walk shall be Stoke on Trent.
On the route there are some magnificent views, scenery and the like. The time of year the walk is taking place should produce some stunning colours, and newborn livestock also.
Another highhlight of the route is that it is almost completly flat, so should save us a few aches.
Currently 7 group members are taking part, so should you wish to sponsor us we shall be very gratful indeed, especially as all funds go towards two great causes. On completion of then walk pictures shall be displayed showing us at significant locations, and we shall also be witnessed at many points along the route to make sure that there is no cheating!

If you would like to sponsor us, no matter how small the amount, then please visit us at www.c60pg.co.uk and click the " Sponsored Walk 2009 " link at the top of the page.

    Many Thanks

Best of luck with the walk - do you have your eyes on any 60 in particular or will it be a matter of seeing which machine is available and in the best condition when you've raised enough cash?

    Thanks pal

Basicly getting the best of what is available. I think the most popular livery would be as they were when delivered. At the end of the day, i'd be happy with any member as long as we get one saved. Looks like time may not be on our side either, give it a couple of years when scrap prices will proberbly be sky high again, DB may choose to offload quite a bit of stuff.

As for the walk, its a way of earning funds by doing something practical and also giving something back at the same time.

Isn' there a 60 on the national collection list? Isn't one the last mainline deisel locomotive built for british rail?

Possibly even the last mainline diesel locomotive ever built in the UK.

Being relatively new, I'd imagine you'd have to outbid foreign railway companies and other UK operators if you want to buy one. That's if they become available for sale at all. EWS seemed to like hanging on to it's class 56 and 58s, to stop it's rivals getting hold of them!

Hi everyone, there is now less than 2 weeks until the Group's 109 mile within 4 days sponsored walk. Our Sponsored T-Shirts have now been recieved, which were designed and donated by none other than the good guys & gals at Rail Express magazine.

All proceeds shall go towards the Class 60 Preservation Group fund, with 25% raised also going towards the RSPCA. We find this a very unique effort in raising funds for our groups preservation aims, so should you wish to sponsor us, we would be eternally greatful. You can do this by clicking on the link below:
