Can anyone provide an update on the current status and owner of this machine please?
It might be at Birmingham Railway Museum but unable to find any reference to it.

Owned by Dr John Kennedy, but has been up for sale for some time. It was operational a year or so ago, but whether it still is I don't know.

Apparently so however trying to get hold of Dr Kennedy is another matter!! Obvious bodywork overhaul to be done, re primer and re paint and i believe the tyres might be a bit on the thin side but im unable to find out if thats true or not?

I believe the tyres are now too low for main line operation, but perfectly acceptable for heritage railway operation. I have heard various rumours about the future of this loco, but I tend to try and not take too much notice of rumours. Time will tell for 50017.

Thanks for replies. Tyres apart, does anyone happen to know anything more about the mechanical state of this machine?
Understand it may have had some work done at Crewe a while ago.

Hiya, you will be welcome any time, but the centre is mainly open on sundays. Access otherwise is impossible unless someone is working down on the site. Don't have a wasted journey, contact us first wwwplymrail.co.uk and we will make sure that someone is there. 50017 arrives on 3/06/09 if all goes to plan. 37207 William Cookworthy is having cylinder head/liner work undertaken at the moment with start up to follow shortly afterwards for the first time since being purchased from Bescot back in 2000? Diesel fleet now stands at 1x 03. 1x 08, 1x 37, 1x 50 and 1x industrial diesel hydraulic 0-4-0. Only the industrial and the 08 (D3002/13002) are currently operational.

Do you still have what looks like the remains of a Planet opposite the platform at Marsh Mills?

    Hello KEYHAMTRAIN & all others, [smilie=hi ya!.gif]

Good Pics of "Royal Oak" arriving at Plym Valley Railway. Thanxs for sharing your results with us. I didn't know the arrival day until I saw it on here today. Also yesterday I had travelled to the West Somerset Railway to enjoy being hauled by TORNADO and take more photographs. My website will be updated with a few pics of my superb day out asap.
Do you or anyone else know if 50017 Royal Oak is accessible at the moment to see and photograph personally or has she been "put away" so to speak, in a shed.

    Best regards to all. :smt006

Royal Oak should be accessable each weekend. \:D/ Shed space is very limited and usually houses the working 08 and 0-4-0ST Andrew Barclay 'Albert', which is next working on the 15th June. The shed also houses a BR Mk 2 BFK coach which is undergoing extensive restoration/refurbishment.
The remains of the planet 0-4-0DM loco is stored in the siding opposite the platform. Several members want to rebuild this loco which was last operational at Victoria wharves in Plymouth. She is low priority and is likely to remain like that for a couple of years :-k.
Extending the line to Plym Bridge and building a new platform there is our main priority. This work is well under way and should see real progress during 2009 & 2010.
