Didn't O' Leary espouse the "pile it high, sell it cheap" philosophy though ? We know that's not possible in the case of main line steam due to the soaring costs, and the issues over cash flow etc.

It sounds as though you haven't yet taken advantage of the unadvertised supplement in the winter to get a seat in a carriage with heating that works...;)

Having done window hanging over the Jing Peng Pass at night and in the dark, nothing in the UK will ever feel cold again. :)

Edit : in the night and in the dark? Tautology at its best. Did I expect to do it in the night and in sunshine? Doh!

Good idea - "window hanging supplement" - RyanRail will have that one the list too!:)

    I'm Convinced!

As we speak, I am having the Tyseley C&W Dept fit 50p electric meters under each seat – 50p will give heat for 15 mins or slide your card and pay ₤12.50 for the full day.

And for the window hangers: put 20p in the slot and the window will drop for 2 minutes….just like the “peeping-tom” telescopes at Blackpool! - guaranteed to run out just as you find something interesting to leer at!

Rip off prices in Czech Republic for railtours. €3 return! It does help when the people running the tour own the loco and stock, it's staffed by volunteers, and Czech Railways have waived the track access charges.

I'd pay. Have been on enough tours where it seems even poking a mic out if the window is strengst verboten so a tenner to actually be allowed to hear the thrash would be a bargain. :)
