Looking to catch this at the water stop at Chertsey to get my first look at 60163 in BR Blue. I was hoping to follow her about a bit at Winchester and arriving at Eastleigh for turning but my train times from Chertsey don't work out to see her arrive at either Winchester or Eastleigh unless I hang around at both stations for a few hours because as far as I know Eastleigh TRSMD where she's being serviced is not publicly viewable from Eastleigh station or indeed at all unless anyone can correct me.

Anyone ese out to see this one.

I may end up passing her on the train I'm getting as its due to arrive at Chertsey a few minutes before 60163.

Doh! Why did you to mention Tornado? Just say "... a nice day out on the train" and leave it at that. Mind you, if she's like my Mrs, she'll guess you're plotting something anyway. I don't usually get excited about going shopping.

Some of the depot and works are visible from the station and the adjacent streets. Have a look at this map. There are two bridges that span the line: a modern road north of the station, and the old Campbell Rd bridge which leads to the works main entrance. I remember getting quite decent shots from both places the day in 2006 that 850 Lord Nelson left the works for Minehead. Of course, I'm not sure exactly where Tornado will go, but maybe it's worth a look?

Yeah she got to Chertsey a few down my train was running just ahead of her so got there with a few minutes to spare. Luckily I did get there in time. I missed my first train at Clapham Junction (after my train from Haywards Heath was late) and the next train arrived there 7 mins late but luckily got to Feltham just before my next train to Chertsey. Saw a few people waiting by the lineside just outside Virginia Water which helped. From what National Rail Enquires there was a broken down train around Richmond which may explain why trains were late and also why Tornado was also slightly late.

Anyway here are my pictures 60163 Tornado Cathedrals Express 10th December Photos by DanHill1991 | Photobucket . She really does look stunning in Blue. Here's a sample.

Here is my video from today's Cathedrals Express to Winchester, captured at Micheldever and Shawford (ECS movement). The sun came out at just the right moment at Micheldever, as just 2 mins before, a black cloud had just gone overhead. Fortunately, just as 60163 emerged from the tunnel, the cloud moved and the sun came out once again.

Thanks for the shots from Shawford. Spent many a happy teenage hour watching and spotting around there in steam days!

Yes, that's exactly what it is for. Saves dragging one of those Diesel contraptions that we love so well around to provide the heating, thus saving another round of posts moaning about the subject on this forum!
