As the booking conditions for Steam Dreams (as does RTC) mentions that at times a diesel may be needed for assistance or operational reasons I do not know how you continually believe people are being incorrectly sold a product.
If people do not read those conditions they hardly have a right to moan, I have never read the National Conditions of Carriage, does not stop me buying tickets on the National Network without knowing what I am "signing up" for. But that is my fault not the railway industry if something goes wrong.

I have always understood that Steam Dreams does read what appears on Nat Pres. The fact that they choose not to engage is unsurprising as that might take up more time than they are prepared to give. And to what end? I'm prepared to bet that a few of those who make the most noise on here have never been near a SD trip so nothing is gained and anyway, that is what direct contact with SD is there for if it bothers anyone.

Having said all that, NP did respond to a direct request from SD a while back when there was an issue over publishing Scotsman's movement times. As for this weekend trip, it seems clear that the train consist of 11 plus POB did look like a coach or two too far for unassisted steam and the additional diesel, for whatever reason, was certain to change everything. If the trip and the circulars were full then it doesn't take much thinking to realise that the money to be made by this venture was going to be considerably more than the money lost from the few who are bothered about what kind of steam experience they get. But we will probably never know.

As for my relationship with SD, I last travelled with them in October 2015 and I see that they are managing to survive without me!

No point going over old ground, suffice to say that simply burying things in T&C does not provide for the disclaiming of any KNOWN facts for a given tour. So, late emergency addition of DL, no problem but planned at the point of sale and omitted, less so.
In any case, a senior SD figure has commendably acknowledged and responded to the adverse impact of DLs in the press so the argument is rather specious.

And without me Alan. I am concerned because having been heartened by the statement made by Marcus and seriously thinking of booking a full day trip with them again I am now uncertain. In fact I did risk a Basingstoke to Salisbury section last year but only after checking with their office that it had actually left Victoria diesel free. They were very helpful

I think that it would be relatively easy to tempt those of us who used to travel with SD but have not done so for a while. Once Mr Smith and his team at Carnforth are all happy that 35018 is sufficiently "bedded in" to be brought down to Southall, a couple of London-Salisbury or London-Canterbury runs with it up front and nothing but a tail lamp in the rear would soon fill up. A couple of trains which recall the shorter, simpler itineraries of the company's earlier days with a Bulleid Pacific on the front would certainly tempt me back while at the same time being an appropriate way to mark SD's 20th anniversary next year.

Departed 4L 0740 from Edinburgh Waverley due to an adhoc ECS service to Tweedbank leaving roughly 0734.

I kidd you not but pretty sure Scotsman just pulled the whole load to Ais Gill. She could be heard as far as way as Kirkby Stephen and when she was approaching me she was roaring, an unexpected performance at Birkitt Common.

I understand 60103 has been towed to Carnforth from Preston instead of going to the ELR as booked. Any gen?
