I wonder where the Mid-Hants source their coal from? The smoke in the image above looks very oily... or maybe a sneak conversion whilst no-one was looking! Otherwise poor combustion for such an effect surely?

Anyway, a piece of good news on the Bulleid Pacific front, images posted elsewhere show Sir Keith Park on steam test at Bridgnorth today, so the middle cylinder repairs must have been completed.

Presumably a little careful running-in to follow, to bed in the repaired middle engine.

Clan Line just doesn't normally throw out that kind of exhaust so I assume it's the coal that's responsible. As I've already said, I like the choice of angle in some of these shots but still can't get my head around the dark, contrasty nature of the images and rust red ballast etc. (That's not meant as a swipe, by the way - just interested in the effect).

I know we're digressing, but red ballast?..................

The two images I stuck up were taken first thing Friday morning when the weather was most foul - no sky, very wind cold and wet, whether that has added to the effect/picture I know not!!

Anyway, back to Bulleid's.................................................. having had a chat with the Lsl lads Saturday night............................... don't forget Braunton's ticket is up in September - tenders being sought for a re tube to have her back at the end of March next year............ and as for Tanger's, don't hold your breath to see her on the mainline this year, the RAIB is knee deep in metallurgical tests..............................................

Surely Braunton since being at Riley's has meant she has restarted her ticket? She never really began it if that is the case?

Speaking to the guys from Loco Services at the gala, Brauntons ticket expires in 2017.

Sounds like the mainline ticket is up in Sept and the boiler ticket in 2017 to me. It puzzles me that MT276 still adheres to a 7 year boiler inspection cycle where as the insurance is 10 years. Politics, history, and no one in Network Rail wanting to take a look at something that I am sure they would perceive to be "risky" and which has no advantage to them whatever. I just cant see though that if a loco can do 10 years on a private railway and that is acceptable, why it shouldn't be acceptable on the mainline too.

Nope, she's off the mainline in September - the "clock" has not been reset! Check out the icons website if you don't believe me.......

Wowwwww. Easy Tiger! I was just asking why?! Oh and the link takes me to this; http://www.icons.com/ Not related...
I love the way that everyone on Nat-Pres assumes you're assumptions and takes it as gospel! 'Nothing like the true spoken word in person'
All I was asking is why?

The Q1 is my favourite exhibit at York. See it every day, and always like to point out the various details to unsuspecting people glancing at the information panel whenever I have a lunchtime leg-stretch in between research sessions.

Interesting, if true, that Braunton will not automatically go to JH's newly acquired LNWR Crewe works. Maybe they're already fully committed to other customers for the next 12 months?
