Sorry, slip of the fingers; as someone who has a fairly intimate knowledge of Wadebridge (mainly from in the sump!) I can't excuse that one!

I'm lucky. I'm a bit too big for the sump. :)

Hmm maybe Ian Riley did buy her but its taken until now to complete the deal (its been about a year isn't it since the story broke hasn't it)

If she's not going to Bury then hopefully she'll have a nice secure home where she can be protected from the elements and hopefully have work commence on her once again.

From Ian Riley's clue elsewhere, I believe the destination is Carnforth

There's a suggestion in the latest SR as to the people behind 35011 General Steam Navigation looking at the feasibility of 'back-dating' her to original air-smoothed condition. There's a part of me that writes the idea off as far-fetched dreaming that we've all seen before, but perhaps not? It would set her apart from the other MNs which could prove a valuable marketing tool in the enthusiast world. I am sure there are plenty of SR and BR(S) fans who would put their hand in their pocket for it - me for one. How much would it add onto the already epic cost of a restoration from Barry condition of such a large loco?

Apparently the same group are taking on 42859 - the forgotten Crab. I'd be very happy to see a hopeful future for her.

I was chatting to the journalist responsible on the Llangollen last Saturday, and he told me about the rumour then. Naturally I have my reservations, but he put the point that any publicity is better than no publicity, and there is a kite to fly on this one. However, I personally have more faith in 35022 being unrebuilt than 35011. However, of all the preserved MNs, I think 35011 has the best name, and deserves to be restored on the strength of that alone! ;)

BTW, 34053 is looking more complete, see SLL's Picasa album: https://picasaweb.google.com/116839141471298057728/Restoration2012#5735239658661890162

That's good. At least it'll be away from the sea air.

RE 35011 they have a zero chance restoring the loco Selinge does not have the facilities for starters a new crank axle has to be made a tender constucted from scratch if this isnt just another pipe dream they have to start fund raising and move the loco to somewhere that can offer covered workshop facilities and the facility to actualy do the work .

Selinge is just an open field, look at 35025 hasnt been touched since it moved there and its already far more advanced than 35011 , im sorry but i view the whole selinge site as a storage location, not a restoration base true they restored Norman in the tent, but that was a complete loco with all its bits, a barry wreck is a different kettle of fish

My cheque book is poised if a "proper" MN is proposed.

I understand that it will leave Herston on 9th May as it combines with another scheduled stock movement, however I have been wrong before!

Thanks, Nick, you've just answered an email I sent to Mr. Troy this morning! Anyway, looking forward to this, now. Fingers crossed that all goes well!

I'd have to say that having all your Bulleids in one basket makes for a very confusing read!

Oooh. Do we officially know who bought 34067. All I heard was that it was someone at WCRC connected with David Smith I think. Could the same person or even David Smith himself have got hold of 35018. I still hope that Ian Riley's rumoured plan to paint her BR Lined Black with early crest goes ahead as that would look great or even SR Wartime Black. I think a Stealth MN would look brilliant even though both livieries are unauthentic.

Speaking of Ian Riley with 8572 having had its work completed at Bury have any of the Bulleid's had work start on them yet. JH will want to have 34046 mainline registered fairly soon and work to recommence on 35027 and IR I think wanted to start 35009 around a similar time to 35027. Although I guess with 4472 still taking up time maybe the Bulleids will have to wait.

As for 35011 I would also love to see a MN in Spam Can form although as has been pointed out it needs somewhere where work can be done undercover and a awful lot of work and money will be needed to do it.

The main thing is whether its true as rumours of a Spam Can Merchant have been around quite a while, 35022 I think was rumoured to be back converted as was I think 35025 (though can't be too sure but sure I remember it somewhere) and there was that article in The Railway Magazine a few years ago about building one at Eastleigh but nothing was heard of afterwards.

34053 is looking fantastic and can't wait to see her in steam will be nice to have another Rebuilt BoB to fill the void left by 34059's early withdrawl.

I'd say it helps keep your mind active. This thread is scientifically proven to prevent the onset of... well, whatever you like! But in summary:

    1. 35011 is rumoured by Steam Railway to be the subject of an attempt to unrebuild a rebuilt MN.

    2. 35018 has gone on its travels to Carnforth according to Mr. Riley.

    3. 34010's boiler at Bridgnorth is being used as a crinoline former for the benefit of 34027.

    4. 34046 is still at Bury. Possibly delayed by the 60103 saga?

    5. 34053 is within a gnat's crotchet of moving to the SVR, with current estimates that it will move from Herston on 9 May. Possibly 34010's boiler will head south afterwards? Speculation...

    6. 34092 has steamed for the first time since I was a nipper.

    I think that's it!

Little known fact- SKP's cab is Braunton's original one. Restored from Barry condition at Sellindge. It was almost a write off, but brought back from the brink!
