Last thread for today (sorry everyone)!

Does anyone know the current status of the new Baldwin on the Brecon Mountain Railway, No. 1 Santa Teresa? Their websites suggests it's all but completed except for a boiler, is this up-t0-date?

With all those inputs today from Chris we can only assume the schools and colleges must have broken up for their summer holidays!

It's not new but a genuine Baldwin built in 1897.

Yes. Possibly OP is confused with reports some years back that Brecon were planning to build two new "Baldwins". Their website still lists them as long term projects. Whilst on the subject of Brecon I've heard it suggested that they have a second TU7 diesel. Can anyone confirm or add any detail?

Not confused, I was differentiating between Santa Teresa (the new one), and No. 2 (the existing one).

At 27 years old you're barking up the wrong tree there, just a very slow day in the office.

Fair enough! It was the word 'tutor' in your occupation which misled me!

Here is a photo taken in April. It's at the back of the shed with the wooden cab plus smokebox and chimney visible. The frames are done but as it was partially obscured it wasn't clear how complete the motion was at that time. P1130497.JPG

Santa Teresa is finished and looking absolutely splendid. There is a fine photo of her standing at Torpantau on the website (https://www.bmr.wales/about-bmr/our-locomotives/no1-santa-teresa-locomotive) and some more nice pictures on the BMR's Instagram feed.

Does anyone have Adrian Shooter's number so that I can whistle up a trip to the BMR for his parlor car Carrabasset? That's a pairing that needs to happen, surely...

Might inspire a whole rake of new builds at the BMR!

In all seriousness, I hadn't realized Santa Teresa was finished, despite seeing pictures. The green is so dark I thought it was No. 2 (despite the obvious differences). No. 1 looks incredible, I wish I had gone up for Father's Day afterall

Carrabasset has been sold, and is now a Statfold resident.

Going to have to get over the bridge and see this very soon. I had started to think it would never be finished. News from the BMR has been sparse for a few years, and at times it seemed they had their hands full with day to day and there wasn't the capacity for new work. Very vary happy to have been wrong in that assumption. New No1 looks absolutely fantastic.

So, I went and had a look. Apologies for the poor quality, my first attempt at filming anything, ever,

I rode behind the new loco last Thursday. I had been before, and remembered the bark of the Baldwin going up hill, so I wanted to do it again with the new one.

I stood on the forward balcony of the leading carriage and filmed from the start of the ramp up to Torpantau.

    This is the result:

The loco is immaculate, a superb restoration.

I took the afternoon trip on the 3rd of July. She is a lovely locomotive and the highlight of a great day out.

Driver told me that there isn't much left of the original locomotive but they have certainly done a great job on the rebuild.

Video from an excellent days charter on the Brecon Mountain Railway, while a wet and windy start to the day, some lovely gaps in the bad weather, showing off the excellent replica rake of wagons and superbly restored Baldwin
