Rileys were one of several places considered I believe and no doubt the Clan Project is grateful for the years of free storage and advice - perhaps not a job they could get on with in the short term
Similarly once the frames are erected the storage of the frames, whilst manufacture -assembly of wheels bogies etc , is a bit inconvenient for a commercial premises.
Possibly the next stage will be at another location as several are under consideration.

Riley's have indeed given much useful advice over the years, and were seriously considered as builders of the frame. After much negotiation it was eventually decided to go with CTL Seal limited, one of the options considered. There is considerable space in their assembly bay, and the frames can be stored there until we finish negotiations for a permanent home, which are at an advanced stage. More on that when negotiations concluded - a suitable announcement will be made at the appropriate time.

As yet we have no photographs of the first stages of construction. As soon as we have, one will be posted for all to see.

If anyone wants to donate to the project, or better still become a member, please see https://www.theclanproject.org/ and go to either membership or donations page as appropriate.

Looking forward to giving updates in the near future...

I thought the permanent home was to be the GCR? Has this decision also been changed?

Delighted to see this progress and encouraged by the involvement of a 'full scale' engineering company on the work. Looking forward to seeing it in the 'flesh', and awaiting the heavy sound of the next 'Clan News' through the letterbox with all the latest detailed news. Well done lads!
By the way Keith, it became difficult to retain that agreement once the GCR extension was decided, so it is not too big a surprise. Again, given the current situation out there with project building on our network connected heritage lines, I await with anticipation the 'home' decision.

As Northernsteam has has stated, we have known for a long time that we would not be able to base ourselves at the GCR. We are still in close contact with the management at the GCR, and spent some time talking to Richard Patching, of GCR senior management, at the last Gala event, where we had a presence on all four days. Our cab structure and smokebox may be found at Quorn on permanent display, courtesy of the GCR, until such time as they need to be moved on to Sheffield for incorporation into the locomotive structure.

If anyone wants to come and talk to us about progress, we will be at the Last Hurrah gala at the GCR next weekend, 18/19th November, on platform 1 at Loughborough Central. Over the weekend, various members of the project management team will be there. Chris Jones will be there on the Saturday, with volunteers to help run the sales stall. Sunday should see Chris Jones, myself, Engineering Director Geoff Turner, Chairman Allan Jones and Company Secretary Ian Henderson present for all or part of the day.

Look forward to seeing you all...

The main frame plates and extensions arrived at CTL Seal yesterday, and the order for all 4 bogie wheel centers have been ordered thanks to the donations made! The group's Facebook page said that assembly starts this week.

    Morning Everyone,

The frame plates and extensions have indeed arrived at CTL Seal, as shown. The personnel in this slightly blurred image are (left) our engineering director Geoff Turner, and Luke England of CTL Seal (right). Work will start this week, and I hope to be able to show an initial photograph of the early stage of work shortly.

As has also been stated, the centres for the front bogie wheels have also been ordered, from Bobo Foundry. The pattern needs to be retrieved from storage and forwarded to them before work can commence. It is understood that there is a lead time of at least 10 weeks before we can expect work on these to commence. Again, more news when I have it.

All in all, a very positive period. If any of you would care to Join the Clan, details may be found on our website, https://www.theclanproject.org/membership The more people that join us, and make even a small regular donation, the sooner we can make further progress towards completion of our dream - a new Clan running o the mainline railways of Britain.

And the day when all of the Standards can be lined up side-by-side.
    I can picture it: 72010, 70000, 71000, 92203, 73082, 77021, 84030, 82045, 76079, 75078, 78018 and 80072, all representing the Standard Range.

I think 77021 has "fallen off the layout" at least if the lack of updates and "error 404" messages are anything to go by, unfortunately.

Facebook says page not available. Twitter - last posting 2015. The group doesn't seem to have what I call a "proper" web page. Pity, as I'd like to renew my membership!

Thankfully they do have have a "proper" website as I also dislike groups who rely on Farcebook rather than a regularly updated website. Home page here: https://www.theclanproject.org/ News here:https://www.theclanproject.org/news Membership here:https://www.theclanproject.org/membership

I was. The Clan website is fine! It's 77021 that has disappeared off the radar.

Having never seen a Britannia with a smaller boiler (am I roughly correct?), I'm looking forward to seeing this Standard coming together, The frames are, I think, the 3rd set that 72010 has had made (1st set scrapped when BR cancelled the order for more Clans, 2nd set found to be incorrect, 3rd set OK).
