Can someone tell me the purpose of the horizontal half-cylinder visible on the front left of the rear top decking on a BR 1F tender is for please? I assume the round filler to the right of the main water filler is for water treatment (where fitted)?

    Thanks in advance

The half cylinder covers a hole in the top of the tender tank. When the tank is full of water the top half of the water indicator float resides in this area. The tender tank drawing is dated up to 1961 and shows nothing to the right of the water filler.
Further research has indicated that a number of these tenders were fitted with water treatment gear. Unfortunately I do not have the appropriate drawings.

Thankyou. The thought that it had something to do with the water level indicator hadn't occurred to me.
