Always a reliable sign that the end is nigh - new paint on a unit heading towards the scrapyard:(

There is some preservation afoot though, is there not? I'm sure I read that.

The problem will be to find a heratige railway where it can be securely stored at a reasonable cost, there are not many. The Swanage railway 4TC group with it's blue grey unit, is still struggling repairing weathering, vandalism and stolen copper to its unit when stored at Derbyshire.
The Clacton Express group gave up on a 309 when they could not find anywhere to store it.
