I see a new rail tour company has come on the scene does any one know who they are ??
Can't see American Express liking that name....
Seems a bit orientated towards the luxury travel market. At £150 a shot, they can have it, too!
AMEX is just David's abreviation.
Not exactly cheap!
Ah I see but one wonders if there is any space in the market for another top end tour company?
Brand New according to Companies House - forty quid a pop over current fare levels for full dining in 2010,with the biggest crash since God Knows When due straight after the election - good luck to them!
Happy new year Frank . I must try to be cheerful resolution bites the dust and so early !
If there are enough willing to pay this then they will succeed . Tornado on board will help although it will be interesting to see if the Tornado Halo slips this year . Whilst many are struggling financially those in work are better off as they reap the benefits of low interest rates so there are people out there with money . Whether this is what they to spend it on we wait and see.
Having done some costings a few years ago, even at £200+ per head, they will need to fill trains. The Blue Pullman operation killed itself and this market by under-charging. This operation tries to set itself up alongsiode The Northern Belle and British Pullman excursions and is, actually, only about £25 more than Pullman dining on The Statesman land cruises.
The brand new A1 Pacific Tornado for the first time in East Anglia from London Liverpool Street to Norwich and return.
They forgot the Winton train ever ran?
well i rang them up and it appears they are using the blue pullman set diesel hauled up to keighley Anyone know f this set is dual braked?
The Great Britain set isn't The Blue Pullman - WCRC have just bought the Blue Pullman coaches and they are in the process of becoming "The Maroon Pullman"!
The Great Britain is Rivera Trains premier set, used for a while by Stobart before the DRS set was ready (if it ever really was....). They are Mark 2d/e and hence air brake only.
Tornado is, of course, dual brake.
Can't see the RTC being too happy about the phrase 'Great Britain carriages' in their blurb.
Making the sums add up or not, 159* quid for what is effectively 'Tea & Biscuits' is about as far from an attractive offer as it's possible to get!, i have to watch what i say but there's suggestions on other forums there's a similarity between this outfit and a defunct one with a certain individual involved....
What concerns me is the possibility of an operator making a hash of their business and going bust owing thousands, that would put punters off booking with other tour operators..
159 quid gets you: FIRST CLASS SEATING (Non-Dining)
£159.00 per person
◦Morning Coffee and Danish Pastries (outward)
◦Tea and Biscuits (return)
◦Linen Tablecloths and Fresh Flowers on tables
Good value for money ?.
Why not? RTC have gone back to West Coast, and anyway, they used the Royal Scot set. The Great Britain set is air con mark 2s.
The Great Britainn set was around before RTCl created the GB anyway? Isn't it Riviera owned?
I think the Riviera set is called "The Great Briton".
The RTC railtour is called "The Great Britain".
A subtle but perhaps important distinction.
I love the way you copy and paste on many forums. Your fun, i like you.
Tbh i think it depends on the target audience, the last tour i went on was full of enthusiasts who kept using keys to get into the brake van etc. Loads of drunken people jumping up and down listening the 47 struggle up a hill. Got a bit boring really.... I would much prefer to be in peace and be waited on not just on the train but off it as well.
What would you like to see for £159. Stratford to keighly on thetrainline.com tonight for tomorrow costs about £100 for a first class single with the privelege of changing train midway.... Drop Amethyst a line, and let them what you think they could do to make it worth you time. They are a new company. (nice people, btw.)
1 post Merchant huh ? hello Trolly Troll Troll , i think you'll find the quote is actually on their Website so forgive me for relaying TRUE info.
What would you like to see for £159 - im Sure Pathfinder or RTC could take you to Keighley with Tea & Biscuits for less than a ton, seems like VSOE prices for les than Pullman standard to me.
I wish these guys well don't get me wrong, but i just can't see how the standard offered for the price asked will be appealing enough to be a success.
lol, who am i thinking of then. I must be going mad.
I'm new to this forum but seen similar wording. oh well. Nice to meet you David.
