There was due to be a meeting last night announcing what is to happen with 71000's overhaul. There's nothing on the Facebook page yet, can anyone enlighten us?

I'm guessing nothing available for the public domain since 29 January meeting?

The Company Secretary of 71000 Steam Locomotive Ltd, which is the actual owner, told me in January that they were hoping to have an AGM in March, but I haven't yet heard a date.

I believe that there used to be one trust that owned the loco and another that operated it, to avoid clashes they were 'combined'.

Not quite. The loco is owned by a company. In recent times there have been concerns that the trust, which was responsible for operation and maintenance, had been doing a poor job, so that trust is now being wound up and a new one has been formed. There are probably some personality issues in there somewhere, but I have no knowledge of those.

Further to my posting above, I have now received the notice of the company AGM.

One paragraph of the covering letter seems worth quoting here.
"Recently, the old Trust transferred all the remaining assets to BR Class 8 SLT and the only matter outstanding is the return of the entire technical records, drawings, certificates, correspondence and engineering archive that are being witheld by a Trustee, the Trust's former CME and Chairman. Assistance in this recovery is being given by the Heritage Railway Association on the old Trust's behalf."

Draw your own conclusions: mine is that this looks like yet another instance of personal disagreements getting in the way of what all parties supposedly wish to achieve.

It beggars belief that a grown man can act in such a childish fashion. Does he think by witholding vital data he will somehow be requested to join the new trust. All that will be achieved is delay to the project.

:( Same conclusion. -must be soooooo difficult to hand over 'a lifes work' to a party that you dont see eye to eye with/ dislike/distrust...

Might find getting a mainline certificate difficult without some of that stuff so lets hope that the parties concerned find some mutual appreciation and understanding once things have cooled down.

Been some very nasty politics going on within the 71000 lot for the last ten years. Could the phrase "chickens coming home to roost" be correct?

These things are usually better not aired in public, but speaking totally hypothetically, as I can since I know exactly nothing about people and issues, I can imagine circumstances where I might believe being obstructive was a better option than sitting back and washing my hands of an entire enterprise that I believed was heading in a disastrously wrong direction. But I repeat, I know exactly nothing about this particular situation.
