Royal Scot makes for a fine sight on a damp and wet Sunday morning at Goathland.

Cracking video and lovely weather (which I mean seriously) as to me steam is best in the rain.

I assume these are test runs with the lack of people on both platform and train? Good shots.

No, this is the ECS to Pickering for their half term services. The ECS leaves Grosmont at 9.30am everyday so that the train is warm for the 11.00 departure. Many thanks.

Thank you, the results can be pleasing sometimes, though these conditions are not for everyone. Glad this worked out in the end, but it was more about the clear run through the station and lack of people on what is usually a busy place.

So there's ECS runs every morning and evening? 324 miles over the course of the week. That seems incredibly wasteful if a third of the mileage in the week isn't earning any cash.

I guess they've weighed it up . I think being half term the focus is obviously on families. Any enthusiasts turning up will tolerate a cold train on the first departure. I'm told the unlimited travel ticket will continue next year as the railway have done well from it. Apparently, some one used their free return ticket in access of 100 times !

Good point. Apparently LMS didn't want the Scot kept overnight at Pickering, so that necessitates the run from Grosmont in the morning. Quite why the coaches aren't left overnight at the new carriage shed at Pickering I don't know.

The set is left in Grosmont overnight so the engine can heat the stock on its way to Pickering so it's warm for passengers joining at Pickering

Then it could have ran 0930/1100, 1230/1400, 1530/1700 all with passengers from Grosmont, like in previous years with the likes of 60163, 46100 etc.

Didn’t think LMS had any involvement with the loco post 1948…

On the third day of half term running and our final day, everything fell into place with a barnstorming attack of the 1/49 at Bridge 37 !

That is a proper piece of kit, and so good to see it looking so healthy after those years as a pink bag of nails. Nice photo too!
