Every Major City suffers from this behaviour, it not just Newcastle, there had been plenty of warning that being around Newcastle Central was not going to be a good idea.

For you to then go back "to the lions den" at a time whe things were turning ugly hardly makes you a shining example of the human race does it.

As for people trespassing, they will be the first to moan when the inevitable accident happens, and steam gets removed from the mainline, in my own experience they are freeloaders who dont contribute or buy tickets for excursions anyway. Notable exceptions do apply however.

Could have been worse, he could have had my ugly mug and mic if he'd have been shooting from the other side. 60163 was master of its load on Sunday. Nice start from Doncaster and a blistering restart from the signal stop about 15 minutes into the journey. For me the York departure was spoiled by the valves lifting for ages as she accelerated away. The highlight IMHO was the stunning departure on the return from Durham. I've attached a sound clip. I've had to compress it a bit to get within the upload limit but hope it still sounds OK. Can't wait for the beast to be fully unleashed up Shap or the Long Drag.

Yes, the mysterious Coach X. At the rear going north and behind the support coach coming south.

Actually, if you look closely there appears to be a second fence line that they are standing behind. Possibly a narrow footpath adjacent to the railway?

    Regards,

    Dan[/quote:17nthvx6]

There is indeed a footpath that runs smack, bang next to the line at that point as well as a road and there does appear to be a double fence line. One to separate path from railway and the other to separate path from road perhaps. As is usual on this group there are those who jump to conclusions without bothering to weigh up the evidence. The only way to tell would be to go to the location and see the layout for yourself of path, fence and road.

That may be a tad too compressed (56kbps?) but that might just be me. I usually try and do mine at 64kbps min but that's probably too low as well. Do you have a website with a higher quality clip? Still a good recording though, thanks for uploading.

I did think this might come up but definitely the right side of the fence!!! The video was taken by my 11 year old son and we are very, very, very careful to stay the right side of the law.

As already explained the fence is right beside the line. I guess the Camera was held directly above the fence but child was 100% on the right side…

Yes it is 56kbps. I archive all my stuff at 320kbps but that would have been far too big a file for this forum. I'd trimmed it a bit to get it under the 2MB limit but even at 64kbps it was a tad too big. No website yet but I do issue some of my sound recordings on CD to raise funds for 34081. Now I've the full set of LNER Pacifics in preservation I will start work on an LNER album. Will be a little while yet as I've still around 100 tapes to digitise and then sort the wheat from the chaff.

Glad you enjoyed it. Must dig out some more treats for the steam audiophiles on the list. How about something from the Harz for starters?

That would be good. I've heard a couple of your clips before, always pretty good.

I was supposed to fly out today but Stansted is basically shut, so I've given up. I hadn't paid for the hotel, so cancelled that, and applied for a refund from Ryanair for the flights. I could possibly have gone tomorrow, but I figured it wasn't worth the hassle trying to change flights, plus I'd miss at least a day. Might try and go in March instead.

That clip is brilliant, what smooth acceleration and no trace of an uneven beat. Well I suppose there shouldn't be with everything new and tight. Well done.

Swiss - That's a fantastic shot, especially considering the snow.

BTW - Are you sat on the fence there?

In case you haven't noticed our preservation movement seems to attract it's fair share of 'Tribal Idiots', particularly amongst the diesel fraternity (I'm not tarring you all with the same brush by the way) but in whatever movement you care to think of there will always be those that are there simply to cause trouble from the anonymity of the crowd.
As a proud Aston Villa Fan ( sorry David 1984, but we can't all be perfect \:D/ ) I object to being lumped in with the few idiots that will spoil any occasion.
Oh and by the way guys great pics and vids thanks for posting, and all hail the A1ST for really putting the movement well and truly on the map. =D> =D>

Yes that is a nice report, pity though it will probably only be on the Eastern region of Look North.
