There is according to the press an OTMR reading out there of 100mph for the third NR test run, but they went on to pretty much say that was not believable and was down to duff equipment. So it doesn't appear all that black and white.

We've had all this before. The high reading was on the Class 67's OTMR.
Can we stop this now? Please?

There was indeed a high reading on the Class 67 OTMR but that's not what got those on board the trial run excited. A mate of mine helped build 60163 and he was on the run in question. Shall we say he was well chuffed with the results? :-D

Shame - I was enjoying the speed getting higher and higher on each posting. First 80+mph ... then 90 ... then 100. Soon, it will have beaten Mallard's record.

Blimey that paint's takin some time to dry Victor!

I've tried and failed already to suggest this pointless speculation ceases. It can only harm Tornado's cause. If the mods are happy to let it run, then we'll just have to ignore it. At least they're not naming names and claiming people have been fired this time around.

    Indeed.

we are letting it run, as the orriginal "speculation" was made off forum and in a broadcast. Thus, anything typed here is just a reflection (a sad reflection) of happenings external to the board.

If we locked this thread there would be the usual gnashing of teeth and wailing about free speach. If we leave it open and let it run, it is the people posting such things that look daft, not the mods.

    Make sence? :smt102

IMHO it can't harm Tornado's cause as NR know exactly what happened on the trial run. Whilst NR people may spend time watching on this and other forums, anything said here will not be theirsole source of info and I doubt they'll trust what is said here over feedback from their own personnel and hardware.

Whilst some posts are clearly speculation and other posts may think they are close to the truth, it is time to draw this particular discourse to a close. I even admit to my shame that I childishly took part but what is the point, it's all speculation.

Just suppose Tornado did speed, the outcome would be the sack for the footplate crew including the inspector. A possible ban for the, loco representative on the footplate and even tighter scrutiny of other tours and trips.

And who would be the looser.. .. .. we would be. Is that what you want?

Now give it a rest it's boring! :smt021

If you think for one minute that the only way NR could possibly know what occurred on 60163's trial is by earwigging on forums like this then you're sadly mistaken. What did or didn't happen on that run would have been known to NR p.d.q. if not as it happened.

I saw Tornado for the first time on the 31st Jan while on the train to Scotland, just outside the NRM on the boil, also saw the back end of the tender in a similar position on the way home today.

Quite rightly you point out that nothing that has been said was idle rumour. Why you then need to call people "sad" for doing so is your business.

Lets get positive then !!! Good to see BBC1 news covering the departure this morning. Looked fantastic. Where are the videos ???? I reckon Kings Cross might see a few photographers later on.
