    Re: 60103 @ York tonight

With this whole flash business, I think most of H&S is overprotective trollop, but no flash on stations is just common sense. How many people here have been blinded by drivers using thier Hi-Beams on cars? I know I certainly have, its the same senario. On the railways a split second is all it takes to miss something.

I'm confused, :smt017, I don't know if I should post about 60103 @ York, or cars and pedestrians. :smt100 I don't want to upset anybody by going off topic.

We're not supposed posting about either. The topic really is about 60163.

When Olton Hall was at NRM in the yard (all the way back where Scotman's cab is now), I asked if a photo was able to be had under supervision. Everyone said talk to an EXPLAINER, couldn't find one.. Just talk to the right person and use a lot of charm.

Not going to mention the threads new name =D> or flash photography!

I was surprised by the way the exhaust appeared to be leaving the chimney on 60163. There seemed to be more coming out of the sides than the top!
    Did anyone else notice this?

Engines with large high pitched boilers and small chimney placed well forward on the smokebox often have very disturbed air flow around the chimney. Sometimes there is a large turbulent eddy off the front of the smokebox which causes steam from the chimney to roll forwards along the top of the smokebox and then break off sideways either side of the chimney. The shape and angle of the smoke deflectors can also be quite crucial in altering the flow lines around the smokebox.

Apparently all due to the 'A1' headboard being so big - according to Steam Railway magazine.

tonite is the biggest milestone yet, with 60163 tornado doing a 75mph run from york to newcastle, i really hope she pulls off a faultless trip and all the best to the a1 team and crew can aquire the Mainline Certificate for its trips.

which then is a step closer to the 1st passanger mainline train on 31st january.

    Good Luck A1 Steam

according to the BBC tornado will arrive in newcastle station on platform 3,however i thought that it was not going to cross the river(tyne) and in fact was using the triangle on the southern end of the King Edward Bridge.Has the turnaround been changed?
