An update for SNGLPT members went up tonight. In summary repairs are planned for next week. No guarantees on a return to traffic but SNGLPT/A4LS are optimistic that the latest work will be a solution to the problems.

So No.7 may see the second weekend of the steam gala on the moors but it's best not to say til it's more certain Have I read this right.

It would take a miracle for it to be ready for the second weekend. Repairs, steam test (with insurance company inspector present) to arrange then light engine trials!

Interesting comment on the Members only area of their website "We now think that we understand the problem and how to resolve it". This is a strange choice of words as it could be interpreted to say 'we have spent a year trying to rectify a problem we did not understand'.

Sorry, however carefully you craft words they are open to misinterpretation!

Anyway, to clarify, the ‘problem’ only refers to the issues Roger mentions in the latest edition of ‘Chime’, so it relates to the repairs not the original cracks. So the ‘problem’ has only been with us since Feb when steam tests started. Just to be clear the extensive repair are complicated and this sort of thing would never have been undertaken in years gone by, so the fact we have had some teething troubles is unfortunate but not something that is exactly unusual with steam locomotives.

The NYMR loco roster now shows the loco. as expected back in service on the 28th. May 2012, which is, I suspect, a realistic date.

I take your point about words and misinterpretation but I thought that phrase was especially poor and far too open to misinterpretation.

Does this recent work constitute a 'heavy general' (for want of a better phrase) in the eyes of the insurance people and allow the boiler to last through 10+ 12 month boiler tickets?

    See? I didn't say 10-year boiler ticket!

    Extract from Gala update:

60007: Despite ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ completing a successful test run last weekend, the problem with the firebox subsequently recurred, although not as serious as previously. Repairs which involve specialist welding are now arranged for next Monday. Assuming this work is completed successfully to the boiler insurer’s satisfaction, it is hoped to have the locomotive in operation over the second weekend of the Gala.

No. The repair will take 60007 to the end of the current ticket in Autumn 2015.
