I'm tempted by the trip on 17/11 - it's just the issue/expense of having to travel to Stevenage first. Travelling to/from The Cross would make it a very long day indeed.

Similar issue for me, would like to do a tour behind an A4 up the East Coast mainline and I think the last time I travelled behind SNG was when I was 2/3 at the GCR, but gonna have to hope I can get up there and be able to book time off work for it.

I presume SNG will still be in black?

For me, the ultimate in serendipity was when I was booked on a trip which was supposed to be King's Cross to Newcastle with 60163 outgoing and D9009 back.

60163 broke... and was replaced by 60009! I call that a right result... :D

Still looks a bit of alright for a ‘temporary’ coat of paint.

The other way round for me, got close to 60009 twice on 2019. She failed the day before The Lindum Fayre, having just been repaired and was due to haul the return leg of the Christmas White Rose the following week, but that 2nd was a cracking trip with Tornado.

With the loco looking like it'll still be in Wartime Black, it certainly gives me a greater incentive to book on it.

I never had much luck with ML trips with 60009. Only had one brilliant run from Cheltenham to the MHR with Bryan Dudley-Ward driving (we had 73096 on the outward leg). Had one of the longest day's out ever with 60009 on a trip from the MHR to Barrow Hill where something was not quite right with the A4 as she just kept slipping when power was applied most of the day, coming to a stand near Harringworth viaduct IIRC. We left the MHR in the dark and arrived at Barrow Hill in the dark.

60007 on the other hand provided me with some of my most enjoyable ML trips. A spirited excursion to Kingswear and a faultless day out to Bristol with a cracking soundtrack were particular highlights. For me 60007 seems to be the louder member of the A4 class. Hope to travel behind 60007 again in the future.

At the moment, that would be a huge influencing factor but I may just have to settle for being lineside in this instance :(

I looked at the SD trip but for me it doesn't appeal enough. But then I have had runs out of the Cross behind SNG, Bittern and even Mallard, and runs elsewhere behind No.9. And I'm less inclined to early starts nowadays.

Not currently published tours on Railway Herald? Is this because the tours are only 'penciled in' at this time?

RH seem to be quite blinkered when it comes to Steam Dreams tours. They often don't get put on their or updated with changes.

They are behind all rail tours currently proposed for 2023. Reply for above statement about RH.
