I don't suppose anybody knows whether there'll be any other steam based at the CVR later this year? I seem to remember reading on here that they were looking to hire another loco in...

May update for those who haven't seen it.

As for CVR locos, yes they are still looking for another guest. No I don't know what deals (if any) have been agreed to.

However, all this means is that we can continue enjoying the sight of sound of 5199 working trains along the CV, doing what she was restored to do :)

Greg Wilson's S160 No.6046 may be ready before the end of the year when it is also hoped that some running will be undertaken on the Leekbrook to Stoke line. In the meantime, it's great to see 5199 performing well at the CVR.

Probably one of the last postings on this thread! 5199 has landed back on her home metals, and is now in the yard at Llan.

Nice to have her back at last.

She's certainly done sterling work during her time at the CVR (for a Western loco of course ;) )

What's the latest on 5199? Is she black yet? Is she even back home as there's nothing on her website?

She is in the carriage workshop at Pentrefelin. As of 16.30 today when I left she has been rubbed down & is now ready for painting to start. The painting has to be finished by next weekend because the engineers need to do a few days work on the bottom end. Considering the clamour to have her painted black , there's only one person doing the whole job !

I do have some pics from her last couple of days at CVR, but nothing of her return to LR. And Bob, it was always the intention of those incharge to let Malcolm do the repaint on his own. It's why she wasn't allowed a repaint at CVR.

As you say, best to have it pained by 1 expert rather than 10 amateurs... It's the difference in the final product having a mirror finish, or a paint job that looks like its been done with a yard brush!!

I agree , but that doesn't stop the 10 amateurs from cleaning & rubbing down !

i strongly disagree how are future people meant to learn the art if no-one passes it on?

and its the rubbing down that is the most important part of the whole thing! any fool can paint... applying lining is a bit different though.
