    Hi
Just an update about 5199 for all those that are interested in her current state

5199 is att he Churnet Valley Railway Nr Stoke on Trent and has been running until recently with excellent reliability and has proven to be popular with the crews

With the arrival of the 8F she was immeadilatley booked in for a much needed valve rebore which coencided with the annual boiler exam

Sadly a known about issue has put a stop to further steamings this being wasted foundation ring rivets

On a brighter note a deal has been done between CVR and the 5199 Project to get the job done ASAP, this has seen within the space of less than two weeks with a high percentge of CVR volunteer labour ( Me included ) the boiler removed at 8.30pm last night

Next on the list is shotblasting and NDT

If all goes well then the possibilty of 5199 attending the Novemeber Gala of must of you will will of read about is high on the list

The first Western engine " up the bank "

Although (i'm sure), 5199 is a large prairie! Easy mistake to make...

If you need extra help with identifying GWR Large and Small Prairies take a look at the 'Centrefold' of the current Railway Magazine :)

    Good news

    Boiler is ok

    After Shotblasting and ndt testing

Needs about 100 Foundation ring rivets and about 70-80 stays

A few other minor bits and pieces and we can start putting her back together

A change of livery may be on the cards.....wait and see

I think the BR lined Green was authentic its just the size of the lion and wheel alway seemd a bit small

When she was restored thats all we could get hold off

I know on her first outing she went with the bigger emblems but the were so old and cracked they had to be removed

After seven years in traffic and numerous touch ups it really is time for a repaint

    LMS red seems popular

Right time for an update and it s a biggy

So far with a combination of CVR volunteers, 5199 members, contracted labour 5199 has had

Valves rebored and new valves and sleaves fitted
Vaccum brake cylinder removed, new barrel, new I band, new seals, new stainless steel piston rod and refitted back into the frames
Vaccum pump rebored and honed ( awaiting new rings to complete )
Cab roof off tanks off boiler out ( im aleaving off all the other bits because there is pallet loads of it )
boiler has had new stay,s new foundation ring rivets, patch screws copper in the firebox crown and steel in the barrel section, mud hole door built up and a touch of weld on a seam, shotbalsted and painted ( 500f paint )
Boiler passed hydraulic on friday 22nd of August
Steam test on saturday morning at 2.30am .......dont ask
Current state chassis nearly finished boiler having lagging and cladding fitted crane booked for Monday the 1st November to put the boiler back
Will we make the gala ??????
well wont be for lack of working flat out

A massive thanks to the Volunteers of the CVR the stalwart 5199 members all showing what can be achieved at the CVR

Not bad since we only started at the end of July

Now as for a repaint you will have to wait a while, a bit of running in needs to be done and theres a small matter of going up Caldon Low......

Great to hear the work is progressing well. Best of luck with having it ready for the gala - as you say, you're throwing everything you can at it so you're certainly giving it your best shot.

Looking forward eventually to the repaint too - although getting it back into one piece first is of greater importance of course!
