Isn't that capacity of the brain to instantly unscramble a garbled message as long as those criteria are met something else!

When the locomotive owner happens to be the British Public (I assume this is technically correct) then surely those who have contributed on this forum or anywhere else for that matter have every right to choose the colour by that statement?

Or is Flying Scotsman as special case?

Frank, you do not have to read his posts if you do not want to. I know it may mean that the thread lacks cohesion(hope thats correctly spelt, my computer doesn't seem to like the spellchecker) but if you do not want to read it you don't have to. Certainnly(again thats probably spelt wrong I'm sorry) there is an application on this forum that you can add foes or whatever it is to a list and so you do not have to read their messages.

But to be perfectly honest I see nothing wrong with Small Prairie's post, you can read it without having to make comment on it in my opinion.

I must admit i have used the friend / foe thing before and it makes reading posts alot nicer .

Just to point out the dictionary is integrated into the forum software so will work on any computer using it so long as use dictionary is ticked below the reply button.

It is sadly American English but is the best we have....

If 60103/E103/103/502/4472/1472 is owned by the British Public, it is owned by everyone. As everyone owns it, effectively no-one owns it. Think about it for a minute. :-k

When we had it in Oz, it sold its own trains almost without publicity. Painted in LNER apple green, numbered 4472, with a single chimney, it had 'brand' recognition that very few trains ever had or will have. I lost count of how many times people said: "Its just like my Hornby model that I had/that I have." =D>

If any of you want to get any influence on its future livery, present the NRM Curators with a well researched, factual paper describing your choice and why it is significant that it be painted that particular way. Your paper should also talk about the preferred mechanical configuration too, this section should include information on water & coal consumption, power output and maintenance costs. ](*,)

While I type this, I'm listening to 4472 + 3801 climbing Tumulla Bank on 10/6/1989. Just a few miles of sinuous 1 in 40 grade with a 500 ton train... =P~

    Cheers

    Brett

Anthony - any news as to whether Scotsman is to have vacuum brakes re-instated during the overhaul (the subject has appeared in another thread too...)?

    viewtopic.php?f=28&t=15746&start=30

I think the last I heard was they weren't but things can change. Do all the vacuum brake fittings still exist from when they were taken off during it's overhaul in the late 1990s?

Put me down for apple green, single chimney, failing that double chimney with smoke deflectors and BR green. As a museum, the NRM should be concerned with historical accuracy, that's the point of a museum.

As for all the bickering and name calling:

Yes let’s hope that the NRM does reinstate vacuum brakes back on her. Surely this must be a yes for the people loco so we can all have a ride be hide her and not just the rich people of this country.

Historically she ran with Double Chimney & Smoke Deflectors in LNER Apple Green prior to her purchase by the NRM.

So if they do turn her out like this as expected, they will still be representing a part of the loco's history. Just because it is not the one you prefer does not mean it's wrong!

    I agree there.

I also think that "tartan" paint would be ideal although I suggest using the McIntosh and not the Cameron tartan as the Cameron is a "bu***r" to apply because the colours all run.
