Slight aside, but does anyone know what is happening with 4110's classmate 4121?

I saw a pic online somewhere suggesting it's bunker was being restored at the WSR?

    Regards

    Chris

I thought it was still for sale via Tyseley (not sure if they own it or are just storing it)

It was owned by Dr Kennedy iirc, who used to own 4953 & 4141, not sure if he still does though.

Could someone please advise what the set up is at the ESR? Is this people working full time for the railway, for a company, or an army of volunteers that are doing the overhaul? Only asking because I don't have a clue!

The people doing the overhaul and maintenance of the locos, including 4110 are all volunteers. We have contracted out some work such as cylinder reboring and lining also flue tube fitting and pressure vessel welding. There is a weekend/bank holiday gang and a Wednesday group, so normally three days a week.

CTMS generally undertake contract carriage repairs for other railways using paid full-time staff. They also assist with the ESR volunteer work sometimes.

Happy to be corrected, I thought they did the loco contracts too.

Another big day for 4110! Today the boiler was lifted back into the frames for the final time.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Considering that 4110 only arrived at Cranmore in Jan 2020, a simple 'like' doesn't really seem enough for the amount of work that has gone into this project. Well done to all involved.

Especially considering several months' work was lost during that period due to COVID lockdowns!

The new copper pipework has now reached onto the footplate. Attached are a couple of photos to show the state of play at the moment. [IMG][IMG]

Very rapid and impressive progress! Should be in steam for Christmas then!

Looking good. You don't fancy tackling 7027 next by any chance?;)

With a few of the detail components being added to the front of the loco, 4110 has regained its identity.[IMG]

    She's looking splendid...
One thing has just struck me though, which is the sheer lack of restored ex-GW-designed locos that carry their mounting framework that carried the ATC plunger. Some have modified versions that house the AWS shoe...
