There wasn't a fighter made that could catch a Spitfire 19, until the Mig-15 :)

I would have put good money on you understanding misanthropy ....... ;-)
All I was suggesting is that pedalling the notion of Mr Smith being an enthusiast hater does nobody any good even if it is played up in jest.

I think that is what any Southern based enthusiast would want, to see 35018 joining its sister on the mainline, occasional on its old stamping ground, 35028 has set the standard, 35018 now has to show she is just as capable, and who knows July 2018 could see what so many have wished for, the sight of 2MN class loco's heading into london arriving with in minutes of each other at the buffer stops all we now is for DBC to repaint one of its rake in Southern region green, and for Carnforth to assemble its own Green Train mk2

The Norwegians have a Starfighter in flying order and the Swedish Historic Flight both a Draken and a Viggen.

Blood and custard would do, it covers the period up to about 1959 and is standard for all regions

Does anyone else wish we had a bit more authentically where coaching stock is concerned, i can remember when EWS had its Ocean liner set , a BR(W) set and the Blood and custard set. Whilst i fully understand WCCR having its own house livery, based on BR Maroon, it would be nice to see a green rake for tours down south prehaps a blood & custard may be a good comprimise did Southern region get maroon coaches ,or did it go straight from blood & custard to Green?

I suppose it depends what is ultimately outshopped from Crewe, not sure how long that will take as at present they seem to be following the WCR approach of gathering and storing large amounts of stock in various rag tag liveries?

Likewise there is the A1St Mk3 rake to consider, not sure whether that will be in Intercity Blue, Executive or post nationalisation liveries (as I know authenticity of livery is so important to many!) ;))

The newly refurbed Crewe coaches are all coming out as Blood and custard, if / when theres enough to do a Mk1 and a Mk2 set who knows

Don't think Blue is on the Radar for the A1SLT mK 3'S. LNER Scrumbled teak (like thompsons) or excursion Green&Cream have been looked at...

If you're talking about speed from piston engines, anyone got a working Mosquito?

The only aircraft that as far as i know was faster than the PR19 was the DH Hornet, which first flew in 1944, but didnt enter service until 1946, but of course none survived that are airworthy as it was like the Mosquito wooden construction . perhaps this may be worth a discussion in its own right rather than litter up this thread?

The remains of a Hornet are set to be rebuilt to flying in New Zealand.

Straight to green, it was in 1956 that the regions were given some autonomy and the Southern decided to go back to green with the WR reintroducing chocolate and cream for some of its mainline stock. At the same time the LMR repainted some Pacifics in red and the WR useing green livery on all passenger and mixed traffic locos. Nothing happened instantly and I can remember blood an custard coaches till around 1960.
A Bulleid on a set of maroons would of course be realistic for an inter regional train
