IIRC the aux generator on the 33/1 failed after one trip and it was therefore unable to provide lighting to the TC. It was T&T for the rest of the evening (first Saturday of carnival week)

‘Swanage Railway is delighted to announce the return of the popular ‘Purbeck Explorer’ Mainline Charters on Thursday 10th and Sunday 13th May as an exciting part of the 13th annual Diesel Gala and Dorset Beer Festival.

Class 33, D6515 ‘Lt Jenny Lewis RN’ is the traction for ‘Purbeck Explorer 1’ hauling the superbly restored London Underground 4TC unit. Departing Ealing Broadway at 10:40, it will be calling at Kensington Olympia, Clapham Junction, Woking and Basingstoke before a non-stop run to Swanage.

Welcoming back Class 20, 20007 to the Mainline after an absence of 16 years, it partners Class 20, 20142 taking ‘Purbeck Explorer 2’ out on the afternoon of Sunday 13th May returning from Corfe Castle to Ealing Broadway (provisional departure time 15:25), calling at Basingstoke, Woking, Clapham Junction, Kensington Olympia and Ealing Broadway.

Thursday 10th May will feature a themed preview day with appropriate diesel and steam services. Details to be announced soon…

The main three day Diesel Gala from Friday 11th May to Sunday 13th May will see an intensive four train diesel service operate between Wareham, Norden Park & Ride, Corfe Castle, Harmans Cross and Swanage from 8am to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 8am until 7pm on Sunday.

Including our resident locomotives, the loco line up (subject to availability) will be:

    Class 20 - 20007 & 20142
    Class 26 - 26007
    Class 33 - D6515 & 33111
    Class 35 - D7017
    Class 50 - 50049 ‘Defiance’
Class 66 - (Courtesy of GBRf)

    With more to follow…

The ever popular Dorset Beer Festival will return to Corfe Castle station, where the railway's own ‘Old Pusher’ ale will be on sale. Other attractions include the museum at Corfe Castle, and trade stands at Swanage.

Tickets for the ‘Purbeck Explorer’ Charters available in advance for £39:50 or £45 on the day (subject to availability). Bookings for both charters are available through the Swanage Railway website at www.swanagerailway.co.uk. Due to the low seating capacity of the 4TC unit demand is expected to be high so booking in advance is recommended!

On both the Friday and Saturday evenings the popular ‘Beerex' train will be operating alongside London Underground’s 4TC in ‘Push Pull’ mode with 33111. Traction for the Beerex services will be confirmed nearer the time.

Check our event Diesel Gala event webpage at www.swanagerailway.co.uk for further updates and follow our Facebook event page.’

The mining museum will operate the original Ruston 48 on the Sunday on demo freight trains. It is unlikely that trains will be run on Saturday. Our own Ruston will probably be out if it has returned to use by then. The trains will run for about 10-15 minutes, fitted in around jobs. Donations would be welcome if you are taking photographs.

Yesterday's final news release from the organising team as seen on WNXX:
“The Swanage Railway is delighted to announce the final visiting locomotive details as part of our 13th annual Diesel Gala and Dorset Beer Festival, running from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th of May.

For the first time during the gala, an intensive daily mainline top and tail shuttle service will operate between Corfe Castle and Norden over the recently restored line to Wareham. These trains will utilise resident Class 33, D6515 with 20007 (Friday), Class 50, 50049 "Defiance" (Saturday), and GB Railfreight Class 66, 66704 (Sunday).

Tickets are still available for both of our popular "Purbeck Explorer" Mainline Charters on Thursday 10th and Sunday 13th May. Tickets are £39:50 in advance or £45 on the day (subject to availability). Due to the low seating capacity of the 4TC unit, demand is expected to be high so booking in advance is recommended!

Class 33, D6515 "Lt Jenny Lewis RN" is the traction for "Purbeck Explorer 1", hauling the superbly restored London Underground 4TC unit. Departing Ealing Broadway at 10:40, it will be calling at Kensington Olympia, Clapham Junction, Woking and Basingstoke, before a non-stop run to Swanage. It will however be possible to alight at Wareham.

Welcoming back Class 20, 20007 to the Mainline after an absence of 16 years, it partners Class 20, 20142 on "Purbeck Explorer 2" on the afternoon of Sunday 13th May returning from Corfe Castle to Ealing Broadway (departure time 15:25), calling at Basingstoke, Woking, Clapham Junction, Kensington Olympia and Ealing Broadway.

Thursday 10th May will see a themed preview day in operation; "Type 3 Thursday" will feature recently restored Class 37, 37521, and "Hymek" D7017. Both will operate passenger services alongside a Swanage Railway resident steam locomotive which, subject to availability, is planned to be Battle of Britain Class 34053 "Sir Keith Park". 73133 and 73107 will also make an appearance later in the day working in multi in push-pull mode with the London Underground 4TC.

Including our resident locomotives, the final loco line up (subject to availability) will be:

    Class 20 - 20007 & 20142
    Class 33 - D6515 & 33111
    Class 35 - D7017
    Class 37 - 37521
Class 45 - 45041 "Royal Tank Regiment" (courtesy of The Peak Locomotive Company)
    Class 50 - 50049 "Defiance"
    Class 66 - 66704 (courtesy of GBRf)
    Class 73 - 73107 (courtesy of GBRf)
Class 73 - 73133 (courtesy of Transmart Trains)

The ever popular Dorset Beer Festival will return to Corfe Castle station, where the railway's own "Old Pusher" ale will be on sale. Other attractions include the museum and the Tea Truck at Corfe Castle, plus trade stands, BBQs at Swanage and Norden stations and a beer sales stand at Swanage.

On both the Friday and Saturday evenings the popular "Beerex" train will be operating alongside London Underground’s 4TC in "Push Pull" mode with 33111. Traction for the Beerex services will Class 20, 20142 on Friday and Class 45, 45041 on Saturday.

For more information and tickets visit our Diesel Gala event page at www.swanagerailway.co.uk for further updates and follow our Facebook event page.”

    Two points arise:
    A) "Purbeck Explorer 1" - Class 33, D6515 "Lt Jenny Lewis RN" hauling London Underground 4TC unit from Ealing Broadway - Currently less than 70 seats available.
    B) Public timetable [no loco allocations yet]: http://swanagerailway.co.uk/userfiles/files/Diesel Gala PTT 2018 v15 (14-04-2018).pdf
