1589 "Newstead"

Norfolk not north enough for you? Most of the UK's population lives south of Sheringham!

 

But they're the hoi polloi. You need to go further north for quality over quantity. Not too far, though as once past Hadrian's wall you're into heathen land.

 

My footage of 1589 'Newstead' blasting out of Norchard with the demonstration goods train, during its visit to the DFR's Royal Forest of Steam gala.

 

Newstead arrived at the Swindon & Cricklade Railway on Thursday and underwent FTR and testing today. Will be pulling the railway's fully-booked Santa Specials over the next few weeks.

 

Little engine is certainly getting around

 

Newstead is just one of a number of projects nominated in the Steam Railway readers award category for the HRA 2026 awards. We're all quite surprised and excited by this. If you feel this is worthy of your vote we'd of course be delighted, but there's tough competition, so may the best nominee win.
