‘Cromwell’ confirmed for Old Oak Open Day

    ‘Britannia’ No. 70013 Oliver Cromwell has been confirmed to appear at the Old Oak Common ‘Legends of the Great Western’ Open Day on September 2.

    The Riddles-designed ‘7MT’ is one of three steam locomotives confirmed for the event, which celebrates the 111th anniversary of the MPD’s opening, on March 17 1906.

    The other two steam engines are appropriate for the former Great Western Railway shed – Hawksworth ‘15XX’ 0-6-0PT No. 1501, courtesy of the Severn Valley Railway, and the ‘Railmotor’ No. 93, courtesy of the Great Western Society. The latter will give rides within the Old Oak Common site.

    The trio were on the modern-day Great Western Railway’s ‘hit list’ of exhibits for the event (see SR469 News – on sale now), including ‘King’ No. 6023 King Edward II, ‘Castle’ No. 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe and new-build ‘A1’ No. 60163 Tornado. The attendance or any further exhibits will be confirmed nearer the event.

    It is likely to be the last open day held at the depot – nowadays an HST maintenance depot – before the site finally closes in 2018.
