I believe there are about 20 as yet unfinished restorations of Ex Barry locomotives. Two that are near to steaming are 45491 and 4150. 7027 Thornbury Castle is having a lot of work done with a completion date around 2023.
Meanwhile 34010 Sidmouth and 35025 Brocklebank Line are making progress at Sellinge and Herston.
    What about the other survivors?

4110 should steam before the end of 2022. It arrived at East Somerset Railway February 2020 and a start was made straight away.

Here's the wiki page on it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...dham_Brothers_scrapyard#Preserved_locomotives

If you click to arrange the locos in the table by status, that should give the answer. I'm not sure the distinction between "Unrestored" and "Under restoration" is always correct (4110 for exmaple as mentioned above is being restored), but between the two categories that accounts for everything I think, "Under overhaul" is a seperate category which seems to encompass everything from Barry that has steamed in preservation previously. Quite a lot more than 20 by the looks of things.

I've been keeping a sort of database of my own as to the statuses of the remaining unrestored ex-Barry locos, and in answer to your question, it stands as follows:

    Under active restoration
    2859, 2874, 2885, 3814, 3855, 4110, 4150, 4253, 4979, 5532, 5538, 5539, 5967, 6686, 6984, 7027, 7200, 7202, 9629, 30499, 34010, 35009, 35011, 35025, 44123, 45163, 45293, 45491, 46428, 48173, 75079, 76077, 78059/84030, 92207

    Stored awaiting restoration

    2873, 3845, 5668 (though preliminary work has started on this), 5952, 7229, 30830, 34058, 34073, 35010, 35022, 42859 (what's left of it at least), 44901 (ditto), 80100, 80150, 92219

Uncertain (appear to be in a state of limbo between active restoration and stalled restoration)

    3862, 4121, 6634

    Conserved for display only

    4248, 5227 (to be further dismantled for new-builds), 35029, 92245

There's no thread for ex-GWR 'Small Prairie' locomotive 5538 so I've posted this here, as that was where previous posts about this loco are. It is being overhauled on behalf of its owner at a third party site, to which there's no public access. A representative has posted an update on another forum:

The photographs are courtesy of the 'Reg Dore Collection'. 5538 Pivot Cover.JPG

It's been a while.......... so time to see which candidates are likely to be the next restorations from Barry? Views?

I'm thinking it's a tight race between 4150 and 4253 but I'm short of updates on some of the others. (Its good to see that 45293 is being re-wheeled after such a long time btw)

Some updates based on various media reports:
92219 moved into Aviemore shed a couple of months ago and it is reported a large amount of parts have been accumulated, so hopefully this can now be considered an active restoration.
The components of 5952 arrived in Llangollen recently and are now being worked on.
Unfortunately 7027 is no longer being restored and may not exist in the not too distant future.
4150 is coming together rapidly and stands a very good chance of steaming next year.

3862 moved/sold recently, so would presume restoration will restart at a new site

Wasn’t 5967 another Hall that had components moved to Llangollen recently?

Please note that it was 45163 that has recently been re-wheeled, not 45293. Both projects are based at the Colne Valley Railway but we are two separate groups. 45293 is owned and being restored by British Enginemen Steam Preservation Society and 45163 is owned and being restored by 45163 Ltd aka 45163 Restoration Group. You can see regular updates about progress on our facebook page or website, see links below. As it says in the Steam Railway article on the re-wheeling there are further exciting announcements to come.

not 5952 but 5967 which moved from Northampton and Lamport to Llangollen .

5952 and 7027 sit close to each other at 84E , both minus front bogies .

Anyone got any further info on where 3862 has moved to?
(If it's a private site, fair enough, but could we at least know which county it's in).

My bad - yes 45163 is a 4-6-0 once more

Is anyone aware of any updates for 35009 that I may be unaware of?

Given the recent resurge of interest in this thread, I thought now is good a time as any to update my database. Since I made that post, we've seen one loco on it returned to steam (4110) and the rest are as follows:

    Under active restoration
    2859, 2874, 2885, 3814, 3855, 4150, 4253, 4979, 5532, 5538, 5539, 5967, 6686, 6984, 7200, 7202, 9629, 30499, 34010, 34058, 35009, 35011, 35025, 44123, 45163, 45293, 45491, 46428, 48173, 75079, 76077, 78059/84030, 92207

Stored, either awaiting restoration or set to remain unrestored

    2873 (set to become spares for DSR fleet), 3845, 5668 (preliminary work has started), 5952, 7027 (to donate boiler to 4709), 7229, 30830, 34073, 35010, 35022, 42859, 44901, 80100, 80150, 92219, 92245

Uncertain (restoration started, but progress appears to have stalled based on most recent info)

    3862, 4121, 6634

    Conserved for display only

4248, 5227 (boiler donated to 3840, frames currently still on display), 35029

Granted, a lot of this is based purely on the information that was last reported about them. Some of the locos listed as under active restoration have not had any information provided on them for some years, but there's been nothing to state that they have stopped being worked on either.

92219 I'm leaving as stored for now because I would need to see progress occurring on the loco itself to definitively know it is actively being worked. Likewise with 3862. This is also why I've moved 34058 to "active restoration", since it has been dismantled and conservation efforts begun since its move to Sellindge). 92245 has been moved from "conserved for display" to "stored" because it seems that the plans for it to be used as an exhibit at Barry have now been shelved with it moving to a private site.

    A couple of corrections:

You’ve listed 6686 in two categories.

If 92219 is categorised as stored, as it is awaiting confirmation of active work, then 2859, 2885, 3855, 5538, 6984, 6686, 48173, 35009 and 92207 should also be in the same category as there has been no public reports of any active work for several years.

Based on the Jan 23 update above, 5538 should be in the uncertain category

Ah, the second one was meant to be 6634. Edited.

My rationale for 92219 being in "stored" but not the others is that those listed above had been actively being worked on, whereas 92219 hadn't.

The recent Steam Railway article would indicate that 92219 is now under restoration.

There is no publicly available information on recent work on the other locos so they should be assumed to be stalled.
