Well if it is finished soon there'll be a scope for a PLA class event with S102 and 1857, currently at WSR. There's also 'Firefly' at Meldon but that seems to have gone off the radar somewhat ....

I believe it moved a a few years ago from Chasewater, after Mark Sealey became GM. It'll be ready next year I was told, but that was over 15 years ago! I understand a lot of parts disappeared when the old shed at Chasewater got demolished to make...

Was in London today to visit to the Natural History Museum to view the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. Some truly remarkable work on show. Highlight of the day though was this magnificent machine at London Victoria. 35028 was...

There is good news re the "Gap" project, that the ground investigations have confirmed that there are no significant problems along the route with good ground rock 15 - 20m below the alluvial deposits. There is a report on the GCR website.

Well, like most big industrials they were designed for lifting prodigious loads at low speed in relatively short bursts and without much 'timetable' pressure. The Austerity design seems somehow better suited than most other contemporary types to...

I wouldn't have thought so. It has a lot of power on tap but that power is suited for a speed even lower than 25MPH. Or at the very least hauling material that isn't going to complain about the ride. From what I remember, the rear axle suspension...

Leaving aside the technical details, my hunch is you might end up in the situation where on days when there is demand for such a service, there is no capacity; and on days where there is capacity, there is no demand! Tom

I just honeslty see the whole idea as a total non starter. The general consensus even if it was to happen seems to be high days and holidays when the SVR runs its busiest traffic and when the charter path is often taken up. That charter path...

Which is why I think any economic argument would come around serving high season leisure traffic, rather than commuting. You are then talking a couple of services a day on high days and holidays rather than regular services throughout the year....

Understood, and largely agreed. Method 1 is, realistically, the only way this might happen. The questions are real and serious, but are capable of being dealt with intelligently by reasonable people. I'd be interested to know what the material...
