One part has commonality with other stock. The wheelsets are standard LNER "heavy" 10" x 5" journals as used on Gresley buffet cars, BGs and Beavertails, amongst other things. When 79 was first being assessed for Whitby running, one of the...

there is Michelin food for £75/lunch within 30 minutes of the NYMR. I struggle to believe many of those patrons wouldn’t go for £110 / £120 with the train ride.

It is now over eight years since I met with L.I.C and made my feelings clear about how the NYMR was being run, in that too much was being spent on people and not enough on things and that without altering that then the whole enterprise risked...

As you say, the reduction to five day running last year wasn't the best managed action with some spectacular own goals. I have heard that it was not simply a cost cutting exercise, though. Last February I had an e-mail from someone in the know...

I wish it were going to be so simple. The railway has tried to push prices up, and then had to discount significantly - which suggests that more income will be tied to getting more people in, rather than upping prices. That's why I, with...

I'd also suggest that for those of us involved with managing other railways, there are clear lessons to learn and things to understand in this. Suggesting it's closed down intimates lack of interest or head in sand attitude, which we can do...

Like them are not, @60044 's posts are about the railway. @Lineisclear has been persistently evasive in his posts, and I am grateful to @60044 and others who have tried to elucidate what is probably going on. I was once a regular visitor and...

I'm a Branch Line Society member, and that costs me £12/year with almost all communications electronic. I can pay more to get paper content - up to £50/year for 20 mailings in the UK. If magazines are sent out quarterly, a comparison suggests...

Four issues of Heritage Railway Magazine is only £21.60 though, if membership came with the discounts for travel that it used to then £60 per annum might be justifiable. Again you are thinking simply along per head lines. A smaller membership...

I look forward to seeing that communication updating the appeal page. I also look forward to seeing clarification that the work required has the relevant permits or that the engagement is in place to secure them - I have too often seen...

I'm not really at all sure that she thinks much outside her own immediate orbit, but maybe she was thinking in terms of her own pay rise? But, leaving joking aside, there is no doubt that virtually any railway one cares to mention is not...

If the purpose of the membership club is to keep people informed in the hope they will donate more, does seem like it's an income generator. Though not expected to be the sole income generator by any means. The A1SLT covenants were £10 per month...

Indeed, it can. But like most relationships, you get out of it what you put in. And if the relationship is giving less (e.g. Moors Line changes) but demanding more (e.g. price rise), then the outcome is likely to be predictable.
