Spot on with this SECR65. I used to volunteer on the line and about 60% of complaints were due to non-provision of steam "it's what we've come for" was such a frequent comment that it became routine. On days when the Moorlander was the only steam...

In no way am I trying to criticise anyone at the nymr in my post, and I understand the immense challenge of maintaining a large and varied loco fleet running 5-7 days a week with such steep gradients and mileage. What I would say, though, is...

I suggest that your observations of steam being "a luxury, rather than an expectation" go more or less to the heart of what is currently wrong a the NYMR's management level. I think it comes across that the operational departments are...

Very true - has anyone looked at the Mid Hants line-up, for example, of late? The West Somerset cupboard looks fairly bare, too., as does the East Lancs. I feel bound to agree that the NYMR seems to be guilty of grievously underusing No. 29,...

The reason Black 5's are more popular than 8F's is probably quite simply because the Railway has always had them 'on the books' with 44767, 44806, 45212 & 45428 being long term residents over the years. 8F' have only ever visited for galas or...

Surely the sensible thing is to include an ‘aircon coach’ option and marshal it at the end of the rake whenever possible. Appreciate some folk consider aircon a desirable thing. Personally I literally can’t see the point of travelling on a...

We've figured out how to move the bolt. I hadn't realised it was hinged at one end. So a number of the windows in the coach are now open. Just arrived in Paignton. Torbay Airshow in full flow. Saw the Red Arrows.

If dealing with climate change was the aim we surely wouldn’t be running coal fired or diesel guzzling trains for fun at all. Given thats not our agenda on this forum then sealed Mk1 windows surely is a bad thing for the enthusiast and we’d be...
