    I was told at the time by Chris Price, when he was CEO, that it was actually the benefactor who bought and donated it, who suggested selling it on to Peter Best - so I assume it was a decision that was acceptable to him!

    60007 was - and still is, of course - a prestige engine that people would enquire as to when it would be running, and make the effort to visit to catch it. I don't think there was any doubt that it helped to attract business and probably more...

    My understanding from earlier posts in this thread is that where 34101 is concerned there is nothing to prevent the owners from taking it away as soon as it is finished which has effectively brought work to a halt until some assurance is found....

    I could be accused of over simplification but did the passenger figures during oil firing on the ffestiniog suffer due to the fuel used? I don't remember families walking away. If it goes chuff and blows out steam, that is enough for most people...
