    So Butlins saved the Princess Royal class from extinction? Also worth noting both 46100 and 46233 spent about 2o years at Bressingham after leaving the Butlins sites.

    Are we including narrow gauge? The West Lancashire Light Railway is a wonderful little place. Very well presented, friendly volunteers, immaculate station facilities, lovely collection of steam and diesel locomotives. Not many places you can...

    As mentioned the Lakeside & Haverthwaite has some beautiful scenery, even if it goes past at a walking pace. The recent addition of Ivatt 2 46441 is an added attraction too.

    Both Worth Valley and NNR feel like they go from somewhere to somewhere, via somewhere else. That steps round the issue with some short lines that they don’t feel like a “proper” railway, but a stub missing context.

    Another thing about the Worth Valley is that from Keighley it’s all uphill. The NNR has a decent gradient up Kelling Heath which adds to the experience and certainly makes the ride seem longer, at least to me
