The Race is On - Help the Greyhound Return to Steam! The 563 Locomotive Group are delighted to announce, in the Swanage Railway’s 50th anniversary year, the next major milestone for Project 120 after an agreement with the National Railway Museum...

Some great footage of 6024 from a few years back from 10mins 30sec in. This is from an episode of Southern Steam which was first broadcast: 14 Oct 1999. Hard to believe this is over 25 years old! [MEDIA]

When 6024 came out of service in 2012 (?) a "Rent of workshop space" contract was agreed between the WSR and 6024 Pres Soc so that the society had space to overhaul the locomotive in the workshops at Minehead. This suited both parties as they had...

This is it, whatever one thinks of either side the thing that does leap out is that LSL seem to have paid £750k for work to be done whilst taking little to no interest in the quality of that work until right at the end, its their cash to do...

As others have suggested, I suspect there are three sides to this story. On the one hand, I can totally understand the argument that says “if LSL were happy with the work, why would they spend considerable sums re-doing it?” But I’d be less...

Does anyone know when 60103 is moving from Tyseley to the Watercress Line? I haven't found any timings yet after searching. I assume she will be hauled by a Diesel again. Sent from my XQ-BT52 using Tapatalk

But also, why would LSL/Hoskins want money to be spent on the loco at Minehead and then for that to be 'wasted', along with time out of action, and then started again up at Crewe? Guess we will never know the full facts but let's hope we see 6024...

No we most certainly did not do anything like a shoddy job. Professionals from outside were utilised when necessary to ensure the work was completed thoroughly and correctly and signed off. LSL refused point blank to come to Minehead to carry out...

The 72 is being done by the Heavy Freight Group, who traditionally do their own restoration work and fundraising, and have done since the 1970's. It hasn't exactly been the fastest of restorations, and with the plethora of high-profile projects...

All very clear. I do miss the late Paul Hitchcock sometimes. He had his monomanias, and one was on Railway structures, but at times you feel he did have a point about simplicity and clarity. Certainly in the case of major appeals, I'd want to...

Most of the stock at Didcot is actually owned by Great Western Preservations, basically just to protect the collection in the event the Society went under. So, it’s quite simple. You have the Hawksworth County at Didcot, which is owned by GWP...
