Concur with much of the above. I used to do 3 or 4 trips a year, but now down to 1, very carefully selected trip. The prices now put them in very much special occasion territory, so really it needs to be a tour that ticks those sort of boxes.

Yes, I think you're correct. I was on what was almost certainly the last Mountaineer in summer 23 - a fantastic trip but must have been a loss-maker as even with only 5 revenue coaches it was by no means full. Very sadly I can't see it running again.

My wife and I did only two RTC trips last year and we will do none this year unless things change. We decided to travel only on proper steam tours, that is Mk1s and no diesel. Our next steam trips are with British Pullman and VT. In the future,...

I get what you say but I do wonder how less than 2 years ago it was apparently economic for RTC/WCRC to run an unassisted Bristol/Par "Duchy" with Bahamas and load 8? Apart from the absence of the Mark 1's and obviously the fire risk I do wonder...

From personal experience I know just what a commitment it is to produce such a detailed report of a trip and am always pleased to read them, with or without a diesel, so thanks from me (but why no mention of a cat?) In a perfect world all trips...

Thanks for taking the time (and money!) to travel and provide a comprehensive account of the day. I agree that Bahamas did what it could but was faced with the impossible to deal with on its own and there was also probably an instruction for the...

Personally Id be pretty relaxed about the jointing, with new rail the joints on the Bodiam extension have held up pretty well in 25 years when the lines only used as a standard heritage line. Its swings and roundabouts. Theres probably only a...

You asks about the various rails we will use, and have in stock, for the 3.4km long ‘missing link’ at RVR - all of which will be 113lb flat bottom rail laid on concrete sleepers with Pandrol fittings. The 970 track metres of new 113lb rail we...

We all remember the tour de force of the EOSS in 2012. Even time from Earlsfield to Overton on the way down and almost a repeat from north of Allbrook to the stop at MP3 on the return. Roundwood at 67 then 70 to 76 all the way to Wimbledon....
