A Crosti 9F. That's just gone on the wish list.

700 class will do me nicely. Hope they do a tidy job of it and avoid some of the worst excesses of the 'design-clever' concept a la moulded-on smokebox dart (although looking at the new 40xx class, they've reverted back to the separately fitted article, which is a good thing as the 42xxs look a bit naff).

Certainly looking forward to the Black Motor mode, just hope it doesn't become another victim of the "design clever" process and really hope they bring one of the BR era versions out in a weathered condition.

Having got a Q,Q1 and C can I justify another freight 0-6-0. Well of course I can. Getting the 2 BIL for christmas, cant wait for the 2HAL. Perhaps the HAL will persuade Bachman to bring out a 2 HAP (a 2HAl with eP brake). They only need a modified trailer as the motor coach was identical with the 2 EPB. (I dont recognise TOPS codes)

Well, considering there was an absolute dearth of SR freight power before the Q1, one should never look a gift-horse in the mouth! However, whilst happy that the 700 is entering someone's range, I'd still like to see an S15 at some point. There might be a few detail differences between batches, but it would certainly compliment the N15, and it is another one of those iconic LSWR/Southern locomotive designs.

Kernow is using this link to tell people exactly what is coming. It really is typical how i buy an Ayjay models kit for a 2-bil, and then hornby release it, and then i buy a black motor kit and again hornby release it. Maybe i should buy the hardest and rarest kits from now on just to encourage hornby to make them for me. They need to release the J15 and D16 in GER blue as that was always one of the smartest l****ies.

Considering some of Hornbys 2012 releases haven't yet hit the shelves, and supply problems knocking 2013 for six., cash flow has to start taking a hit at some point..
I suspect a lot of this wish list may not appear until 2015... and not Q1.

    Hmm..

Hornby is doing a Great Goodbye collection of 6 A4s and in a cabinet.. limited edition of 504..

could this be why the 6 "great gathering" have been "great waiting" all year and expect to be released (all sold out as a collectors).. this same day as the announcement..

I guess that extra limited edition will cause a drop in values .. naughty naughty.

I saw the K1 mock up in Hong Kong at least a year or two back.

So that's, say, £150 per model (ok, that's where things are heading these days), and £99.99 for a cabinet. A bit over priced, methinks, and trying to milk everything possible out of the Gathering. They need to watch they don't make the same mistake made during the Olympics.

Looking at the prices for "ordinary" A4s at the likes of Rails of Sheffield, a limited edition would easily be more than £150 each, so this isn't bad value but still a lot to spend at one time!

Hornby have apparently increased their trade price (whilst holding the RRP) by approx 23%. thus squeezing the margins of retailers and preventing the big discounts they have been offering.

Days of big discounting is already hitting the big boys.. the Great Goodbye is £20 more per loco than the Great Gathering…. same engine, different colour box.

My guess is Hornby is going to be much more "in your face" with an online and retail presence of their own in future, and squeeze out some of the part time retailers who are "subsiding they hobby" as well as the box shifters.

It will however see prices increase to the end customer, with quite a hike.. starting in the next few weeks.

Inevitably the response from the public will be "i'm going to buy less".. but as Hornby has a supply side constraint that is going to be with them for a few years, having less to sell, but selling it for more, preserves the bottom line and the "i'm going to buy less" is already factored in.

Your second hand collection may just have gone up in value.

I am pleased with the locomotive releases. The J15 and D16/3 particularly welcome, as is the 700 and K1. Whether we will see any of them in the next twelve months remains to be seen.

Not quite. Railroad version, and looking at the current progress, it could be substantially improved on. Personally, i'm of the `i'd rather pay a bit more for a difinitive version' brigade, so i'll be passing on it.

I'm in the same boat and honestly, I dont care. The OO Works model cost me just over three figures, however its hand made with a milled chassis and of white metal/brass construciton throughout. I'd take it anyday over a plastic model that, judging by recent models, will have square axleboxes.

Err, yes it is. Considering the RRP of Hornby A4's when new in 2004 was £105, thats almost a 50% increase. I dont buy any of this increase in cost rubbish. Its Hornby's fault for thinking they could exploit foreign workers in the first instance. They should have never moved abroad.

What Hornby have done with the Great Gathering/Goodbye is a slap in the face to all those who shelled out the best part of a grand in the first instance. 500 is a limited run, 1000 is not, simple as. I personally havent ordered any of the models, but would be extremely annoyed to find out this news.

I hope Hornby dont put 23% on top of Hawksworth coaches - they cant shift them at the price they are at now! Another poor decision, over produced and all corridor stock.

Will the Stars in this years catalogue feature 10 spoke or 12 spoke wheels?

As far as I understand it, it's Railroad because the normal 9F they sell is also a RR version - with Bachmann selling a competing model they probably don't see the point in developing an upper spec version. I wonder if it could be crossed with the Bachmann example...

I have to admit being bemused by Hornbys ambition with the A4 collection..
6x A4's only 1 of which hasn't been modelled in the livery it was displayed before, the rest are "re-runs" of a form.

at 510 models.. thats 3060 A4's out of the existing mould.. only then to double it to 6120 models for the Great Goodbye, all from an existing mould / tooling which has already seen thousands produced before it.

I can't believe in general A4 models won't end up being dumped on ebay, and no one wanting to buy a new A4 for a few years.
(fyi a mould break even was given as 30,000 models back in my day in the industry, with 100k being the max before wearing out)…
That A4 mould has made some money this year...
unfortunately the "bonus premium" of the Great Goodbye will have been dented by this new edition.. which I suspect may linger on shelves for a while.. (after all how many people are there with £1k in their pocket, who really want both identical sets and are prepared to pay a bit more for that duplicate than the previous ??)

Its the same issue with the 1948 Loco Trials edition of 34006 with Stanier tender. Five years on, and they are the most prevalent Bulleid model available on ebay. They really do need to have a rethink on how 'limited' a 'limited edition' should be...

Another gripe is that there are instances where a proprietary model is more limited than said limited editions. Take the 34107 release two years ago for instance. It was the first late-BR unrebuilt WC with town crest since 34091 (which by all accounts was equally limited in production); the model was released just after Christmas, and they sold out like hotcakes in a very short space of time (by March, I think). Suffice to say, I consider myself lucky to have obtained one, and it is currently the pride of my Bulleid fleet.
