hi i just read this on the south tynedale website:
i've never heard of this engine at the WHR. is it still owned by the WHR or has it been sold on? if it's still there, does anyone know what the plan is for it? i would have thought a 6 wheel tank engine would be a little small for the line, unless it was going to be used in pilot duties or doubling with the englands or russell

If its one of the ones I think it is then I suspect that who ever owns it are going to be in for a lot of fun trying to regauge it to 60cm. Inside framed and basically, urk!

Chirpy (as it is nicknamed) is owned by an FR driver, is already 2 foot gauge, and is being rebuilt as and when funds and time allow. Said driver having aquired 2 children since aquiring the loco might mean that the rebuild will take a little longer...

So are you saying it has been re-gauged by the present owner, or was it always 2' ?

As far as I know it has always been 2' (well, 600mm) gauge

I seem to remeber getting some sales paticulars of the two for sale at the MRC years ago and I`m sure they were 2`6" gauge. It is also listed at http://www.uklocos.com/ as 750mm gauge

It deffinatley isn't/wasn't 2' as I remember when it was sat on a wagon on the Minffordd exchange sidings, but I know that the aim is to convert it.
