Making its first moves under its own steam on March 4, Peter the Private is based on the design of RVR No. 4 Isambard Kingdom Brunel, designed and built by famed miniature locomotive builder David Curwen in 1977.

The first steam locomotive built specifically for the RVR, it has taken ten years to build Peter the Private, using the same patterns and castings as No. 4, including an identical tender.

Peter the Private brings the Hampshire miniature railway's operational steam fleet up to three, with 0-6-2T No. 3 Trevithick also in running order.

The railway is open from 11am to 4:30pm every weekend and most school holidays, with an adult return costing £1.75 and a child return £1.25.
