Is it an operator specific issue then, as I note that the 60009 movement that went wrong and the TE are both DBC jobs?

Or maybe they have reverted to the risk management approach. Temperature 24 in the NW, dry conditions but not tinder dry. Looking at the 8Fs performance this week compared with last, an instruction to take it steady could easily be imagined. That's all assuming Ian's 'it would appear' is confirmed.

Yes, not seen it myself (will do for the return), but I've had two separate reports passed on from others who have seen it, so it's confirmed as far as I'm concerned.

    Ok, if you say so.
I've re read the bit............."Network Rails performance as the custodians of the rail infrastructure and do not believe NR or it's staff are fit for purpose."

A bit strong is that don't yer think ? If as you say they are 'not fit for purpose'.........what's your solution to then ?

    I still think you're having a rant

As the 8F appeared to loose some time during the run rather than at a water stop was it being worked a little easier to reduce the risk? Difficult to tell from the webcams although seemed quieter at Ribblehead Station than normal and maybe a little gentle in the SGT excellent (as usual) video clip.

Aaah, a grand sight, the 8F chugging along like a good un. A grand set of drain co cks keeping the tradition alive and well.

I enjoyed the video, thanks for posting.

No I don't think N R or its staff are fit for purpose. A good clear-out of the overpaid deadwood at the top, starting with the chairman may be a good start, followed by performance related pay for all staff. Not a rant, more an observation of one who has to tolerate the pathetic levels of service in the South East at extortionate prices. Also you seem to have changed the terms of what you are complaining about.

I just think this is a massive topic. How can you observe that right across the board from CE to EE, from Thurso to Penzance, from operations to investment? Relative to Railtrack and BR? What metrics do you think are relevant? What's the evidence that the track access charges are to blame for 'extortionate prices' in the SE? Isn't it mostly that our Government in its wisdom has decided that wherever possible, users should pay for the railway?

It's obvious that Network Rail has weaknesses. They don't know their 150 year old asset base with precision, hence problems with GWML electrification. Investment project cost control and optimism bias is clearly an issue which causes endless delay and respecification. The MML has been studied for electrification on and off since 1981. But on the other hand, when it comes to service delivery, most times I go down to Leeds station every train on the board is on time. Ok there may be problems with the buddleia but I wonder if you're projecting specific route problems to a national scale. My daughter lives in Lewisham so I do know the horrendous difficulties for passengers caused by the London Bridge scheme, for example.

Mods--apologies that this has nothing to do with LE movements, feel free to move.

Before anyone gets too excited there are a few factors to consider.
    1) Operator WCRC where as the last movements were DB Cargo.
    2) Runs non-stop Battersea yard to Wymondham so almost certainly diesel hauled.
    3) it's a VSTP (Control arrangements) movement, so liable to late change.

    Cheers, Neil
